Sneak peek ... Working on my Dogme Broderi piece for October. This is my first time to try English Paper Piecing to construct this little ring of hexagons. The ring is sewn to the charcoal gray background with perpendicular straight stitches. The center of the ring and the background will be filled with more embroidery. Stay tuned... 🪡🧵 by @pjpcreative

Tiny Tuesday

A bit of foreshadowing... The Dogme Broderi challenge for October has got me thinking about hexagons...more to come soon on that. This small collage features hexagon shaped fabric pieces, embroidered hex shapes, and gel printed paper. The collage area is Artist Trading Card size (2.5" x 3.5", or approximately 6.5 x 9 cm). Overall size is 3.75" x 4.75".

My September piece for the 2026 Dogme Broderi stitched circle show challenge led by Lisbeth Degn @dragenkunst

The inspiration for the challenge was abstract landscape. We were to stitch together five to eight fabric pieces for the background. Then we were to stitch a circle with the coral knot stitch. Inside the circle, we were to stitch freeform lines using any combo of straight stitch, back stitch, and/or stem stitch. I used back stitch for the curlicues and stem stitch for the other lines.

I chose fabrics in blues and neutrals, and thread in dark gray (the circle perimeter) and blues. My piece is actually more of a seascape than a landscape.

Overall size is 10 inches (25 cm) square, and the circle is approximately 8 inches (20 cm). There is a backing fabric of unbleached muslin.

Tiny Tuesday

Something a little different this Tuesday... I had to try AI image generation, so I created this cheeky retro lady using a Google image generator. I printed her out and added my gel printed squares and a bit of ephemera, on watercolor paper and packing paper substrate. I rather like this lady, and the AI experimentation was fun, but probably not something I will use much.

The collage area is Artist Trading Card size (2.5" x 3.5", or approximately 6.5 x 9 cm). Overall size is 3.25" x 4.25", or about 8 x 11 cm.

Tiny Tuesday

A little something different this Tuesday... I don't do a lot of representational art, but this week I was inspired to try to capture this little cottonwood leaf in watercolor. My man and I traveled to upstate New York to escape the heat where we live, and visit his family. We spent a lovely afternoon at beautiful Seneca Lake in Geneva, NY (second pic), where I picked up the leaf.
