Pontus Pettersson's works currently visible at Index.

Clouds (and skies, and puddles) have manifested as recurring fascinations during the time Pontus Pettersson has been inhabiting Index space. Formations that can exist within air – and AIR as the title of Pontus Petterson’s year long residency-exhibition-occupation.

What can be seen here are remnants of Pontus’ studio walls from within Agnė Jokšė’s exhibition REALITY CRACKS. These walls and the shelves Pontus built on them became surfaces in themselves, containers for works in process, and also held inspirations in the form of publications, material fragments, fragments of Pontus’ own text works.

Now, these wall fragments lean up against Index wall, behind the heavy drapes of Ruby Nilsson’s exhibition RECANTATION. A cohabitation of artistic practices and exhibitionary moments.

Index is open Thursday / Friday 12:00-18:00.
Weekend opening hours 12:00-16:00.

Welcome!

Sunday Session #1: Pontus Pettersson + Rachel Tess, Robert Malmborg and Stina Nyberg, 22 March 2026, 18:00–20:00

Sunday Sessions is an informal sharing of works intersecting with and/or inside of Pontus Pettersson’s one year residency and exhibition AIR at Index. Taking the form of either improvisation or therapy, a session can mean taking the time to reflect, to compose, to be in the moment and act from what one has at hand. With a wish to invite or expose more witnesses into Pontus Pettersson’s ongoing process within Index’ space, Sunday Session is an initiative that can serve dancing in whatever state it’s in. To accompany newly fresh poems or sculptures in transit or curatorial dwellings.

The first Sunday Session focuses on dance and choreography. Pontus invites Rachel Tess and her solo project Flip Side; Pontus is one of several choreographers making a solo for her in this project. Also invited is Stina Nyberg and a section of her piece For What We Will – which features a duet that Pontus and Robert Malmborg dance in.

Pontus Pettersson’s artistic practice is a blend of various disciplines and genres, where text, objects, sculptures, and choreographic work are interconnected.

Rachel Tess is an American choreographer and dancer living and working in Sweden. She is the director of Milvus Artistic Research Center (MARC) in Knislinge and senior curator for dance at Wanås Konst.

Robert Malmborg is a dancer and on occasion choreographer from Stockholm Sweden. Working with dance and voice, he is interested in the function and expression of these crafts in regards to labour.

Stina Nyberg is a choreographer and dancer and holds an MA in choreography from Stockholm university of the arts. Her practice departs from a fascination of the extraordinary within the ordinary, shifting between magic, storytelling, dancing and daydreaming.

Sunday Sessions is a recurring format that shares process, choreographic and performative moments connected to Pontus Pettersson’s year-long exhibition AIR at Index.

The cat's out of the bag!

Over the course of one full year, I will be artist-in-residence at Index—an unofficial/official residency that functions as both exhibition and performance. This project plays with the juxtaposed roles (or non-roles) of institutions and artists, exploring how these relationships can generate meaningful exchange or parasitic structures. From 19 February 2026 to 19 February 2027, AIR and Index will serve as both a creative hub and an open invitation for dialogue and collaboration with other artists, curators, guests, and thinkers who pass through—or by—Index.

The official start of the residency coincides with the opening of Harun Farocki: VIDEOGRAMME EINER REVOLUTION (2026), where Index, twenty years later, once again presents the very first Swedish solo exhibition by the German filmmaker Harun Farocki.

The opening takes place from 17:00 to 20:00. I will perform at around 18:30, inaugurating the one-year-long cycle, the opening also marks the last official exhibition by Marti Manen as Index’s director, a role he has held for many years, and in recent years shared as co-director together with Isabella Tjäder.

So please come and celebrate these three cycles of time converging! taken in Index - The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation by @pjukus

”A Dog called Drama”
Performance, 2025
Pontus Pettersson

”Yolking”
Interaktiv skulptur, 2018
Pontus Pettersson

Down memory lane!

Pancor Gates (AIDS) as part of Attitudes of the unruly, curated by Cedrix Faux for Dansehallernes Close Encounters 2021. Pontus participated with three works, thought to each wield their respective potential into the promise of the exhibition.

Pancor Gates - Using the insisting and existing lines and design of Pontus' self-made typeface Pancor, Pontus created two custom made gates for the exhibition and the space of Den Frie, as a way to create borders and parallel entries to the exhibition. Seen in picture is one out of two gates, Pancor Gates (AIDS)-taking inspiration from the iconic AIDS logo of General Idea art collective. Besides the gates Pontus contributed with a workshop with his cat practice and an iteration of his accordion work titled Abandon. by @pjukus

Continuing down memory lane is the sculptural installation Volver. Created as my contribution to the spring exhibition at Konstfack during my masters in fine arts. The work includes the iconic red chairs of konstfack made into a wallpaper, an egg fountain and chewing gum to write wishes on. Not seen is also a deck of conversation cards that was made out of images and words from fellow students at the school. taken in Konstfack by @pjukus

In relation to the newly published monograph As If They Had a Spirit, I wanted to start posting some older works as a way to let them continuously live—similar to how they do through the publication that Adriano and Simon have created.
First out is Writing Wounds to Heal, a poetry and cloth project I did in 2015, as a way to show/read poetry through and on the body. I created a series of garments made out of velvet silk, onto which I applied my poetry using my own typography, Pancor. Alongside the clothes, I also made a “jewellery stencil” with all the letters.
The first image shows the stencils, mended together as a mirrored quilt (also used in the one-to-one performance The Stellar Blanket). The image is by the amazing Luis Alberto Rodrigues, and the second is by Märta Thisner—both invited to document the work through their artistic lens. @martathisner @luisalbertorodriguezstudio by @pjukus

Väggen sjunger kroppens talan (The Wall Sings the Body’s Voice) –
Thank you to Alba, Jonas, and Emily for the invitation! Here are some pictures from the performance in Jönköping last week—beautiful shots by Weronika Bela!
Väggen sjunger kroppens talan is part of Pontus Pettersson’s artistic research project All Departures Are Waves and has been developed both in the studio and in scenic contexts. With the invitation to Gnistrande Skymd, Pontus has begun developing a solo version of Bodies of Water, where his work with clothing, accordion, and dance merges into a single piece.
In the three-hour-long performance, Pontus uses discarded clothes and fabrics from Erikshjälpen in Huskvarna, which are mounted onto the wall with a staple gun, creating an action painting-like scenario, interspersed with moments of accordion playing. The piece premiered at Gnistrande Skymd at Jönköping County Museum and will continue to MARC in Knislinge in April. Väggen sjunger kroppens talan was part of Gnistrande Skymd, created by Hillside Projects and curated by Alba Folgado. Thank you to Erikshjälpen in Huskvarna! taken in Jönköpings Läns Museum by @pjukus
