Snow Buntings have arrived! Always a pleasure to see these lovely arctic birds hit the rock jetties before heading to the snowy farm fields for most of winter. Thanks to Judy H. for finding this beautiful lady at Governer Nelson today. They should make an appearance on the Tenney Park jetty as well this fall. Absolutely adorable creatures and sign of winter! 🤎❄️

Happy 32rd anniversary to @ragierhart! Thank you for being my west coast, the one I love the most and so much more!

Possibly a Pacific Loon or maybe even Arctic but certainly a loony birding community! Gotta love the Tenney breakwater! 🦆🐥🦢📸 by @pkgbirds

Merlins are fierce little falcons. I watched this youngster hunt yesterday. Amazingly fast flier. Cool bird!🤎 I am guessing juvenile based on uniform brown back and fresh feathers but could be an adult female as well.

Fall Warbler wrap up! I enjoyed capturing these photos and moments. Twice a year we are blessed to have incredible warblers pass through town. Birds are amazing. Absolutely fascinating that they can change plumage and migrate 1000s of miles away with their inner compasses. I also never realized Nat King Cole chatted about bird migration in this song! The cute actors in this video are: Magnolia, Connecticut, Blackburnian, Northern Parula, Bay-Breasted, Black-throated Blue, Canada, Black-throated Green, Nashville, Blackpoll, American Redstart, Chestnut-sided, Golden-winged, Cape May, Tennessee, Yellow-rumped, Palm, Orange-crowned, & Yellow. Enjoy!💛

I was so blessed to see this Ruby-throated Hummingbird give me a show recently. It looked like nesting behavior in the fall! Just gearing up for migration looking for bugs. Don’t miss the tongue! When I see hummingbirds, I get emotional thinking of my mom because she nicknamed me the Hummingbird for talking too much😛. Hummingbirds are often seen as spiritual messengers like Noah shares here in his beautiful new song.
Hi Mom! 💚💜

I met this beautiful Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk at a nearby community garden. He let us get so close and was not at all bothered by us. We were able to watch him hunt for a long time. I say “he” based on size but could be wrong. Males are smaller than females. Juveniles have a barred tail that has not turned red and generally have pale eyes. You can see what looks like a yellow smirk:) Its called a gape. Also a little blood on the bill😳 I have never been able to see this much detail. These hawks are very common, but they have so many interesting features and sub species. 🤎

Almost a bird..👐🌺
Sometimes it’s the little things on a bird walk that make you smile.

The beautiful Northern Parula. One of my favorite warblers. It’s a challlenge to find them sitting still. They are still migrating through town for a few more days. Enjoy them while you can….💛💙

It’s fancy sparrow season! I had the pleasure of meeting this friendly juvenile LeConte’s Sparrow today. LeConte’s Sparrows are a very special & secretive bird that act more like a “mouse than a bird”(Cornell). They often run on the ground instead of fly.
They are very famously elusive. We are lucky in wisconsin to see them occasionally during migration if we work hard. This bird has lost 50% of its population in the last 50 years due to loss of habitat degradation. Thank you to @birdhopper for finding this beauty today (along with an adult) & sharing the journey of relocating it with me. My first Juvie LeConte’s. Thank you to @wildthing_ruth for finding one at this location on Friday. It takes a bird village.💛
