⚫ A house at a river bend.
.
Under construction. Sitting between farmed fields and a strip of forest overlooking a gentle bend in the river, this home is defined by two distinct forms – private sleeping spaces in one and social spaces in another – the building’s interiors harmonize with a new inhabited landscape surrounding the home and the broader context beyond.

Structure to your practice can happen in many ways, including working towards projects in locals that excited you. You don't have to be a victim of circumstance, you can create your own luck.

That is one of the ways Jennifer, Duncan and Will look at supporting each other, their clients and their projects, as well as their personal and professional goals.

A House in a Meadow Between the Forest and the Sea is a summer home on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. The house sits on a slope at the point where forest gives way to open coastal meadow, facing northwest toward the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The house privileges views along the coast, helping situate the dwelling within its immediate setting, and reinforcing relationships to meadow, cliff, and sea. by @placeofwork.ca

Photos 1-4: Camp on a Cliff Above a Lake is set on a granite bluff between the woods and the water. This dwelling overlooks the lakes and bays of the La Cloche Mountains, Ontario. This is a structure crafted for a family deeply connected to the outdoors. Currently under construction.

Photos 5-6: A compact multi-unit building responding to the narrow lots of the Halifax Peninsula. This project is a collaboration with MRB Contracting, who we have worked with on custom homes. This project brings gentle density to the North End of Halifax.

Photos 7-10: A Sauna for a Friend features an ocean view of the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The client wanted to build the project herself. As such, it was designed to be easily and quickly fabricated with minimal assistance of tradespeople. by @placeofwork.ca

A House on a Ridge Overlooking a Bay is a home for a young family on a narrow, twisted inlet sheltered from a larger bay on the outskirts of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The site leads down from the road to a ridge providing a vantage point high above the bay. The vaulted main space of the house sits between ocean facing and forested terraces, anchored by a large stone-clad wood-burning fireplace. by @placeofwork.ca

While social and bedroom spaces have outward horizontal views to the river and meadow, we’ve also carved vertically in to the roof form in key areas introducing vaulted ceilings topped with skylights that open the building to the sky.
