Our idea was to create a committee composed of people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. We first met Loïc a few years ago in New York and were already familiar with him through his book Places and Spaces. When discussing potential members for the board, he was one of the very first people who came to mind. Coming from the worlds of music and fashion, Loïc has a unique ability to shape cultural relevance across different creative fields.

For the exhibition, Loïc selected Hajime Sorayama.

Loïc’s perspective:

“I have a deep appreciation for Japanese culture and history. While Japan is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship—where master artists are honored as National Treasures—it has also established a powerful presence in the contemporary art world.

I first discovered Hajime Sorayama in the 1990s through his illustrations of retro-futuristic female robots, which immediately reminded me of Metropolis. As a science-fiction fan, his work resonated with me instantly, blending sensuality, technology, nostalgia, and futurism in a way that felt both emotional and cinematic. His art connected with me on multiple levels and sparked a lasting admiration for his singular vision.” taken in Basel, Switzerland by @places_and_spaces
