Europe Just Offered Canada a Place No Country Has Ever Had 😳

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed making Canada the first associate member of the European Union, as Ottawa seeks deeper economic and security ties with Europe.

The proposed relationship could expand cooperation in defence, energy, critical minerals, AI, quantum technology, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing and the Arctic.

Canadian officials have also discussed seeking an arrangement that could eventually allow Canadians to live and work in Europe without visas, although those mobility rights have not yet been created or agreed.

The proposal comes as Canada tries to reduce its heavy dependence on the United States following tariffs, collapsed trade talks and President Trump’s repeated comments about Canada becoming the 51st state.

Canada has already become the first non-European country to participate in the EU’s €150-billion SAFE defence programme.

Smart diversification away from the U.S.—or is Canada moving too far into Europe’s orbit?

Greece Just Bought a $3.5 BILLION Shield… Against Turkey? 😳

Greece and Israel have signed a $3.5 billion agreement to build Greece’s new “Achilles Shield” air-defence network, combining David’s Sling, SPYDER and BARAK MX systems.

Athens says it is modernising against modern missile and drone threats. But Greece’s longstanding rivalry with fellow NATO member Turkey adds a much bigger geopolitical dimension to the deal.

A cargo ship sank in the Strait of Hormuz. The bill may land on you.
The Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride was hit on October 13 off Musandam, Oman, and sank.
All 21 crew were rescued. Singapore says it was struck by a projectile; Iran says it hit a mine.
Videos show containers and cargo floating as small boats collect goods.
Reports of iPhones and luxury perfume on board are not confirmed, and no cargo manifest has been published.
War-risk insurance in the Gulf has jumped from about 0.25 percent of a ship’s value before the war to 6 to 10 percent for tankers, brokers say.
Shipping a 40ft container from Shanghai to New York now costs about 10,220 dollars, near the 2022 record.
Will higher shipping costs hit your wallet?
Comment 1 for prices will rise, 2 for overhyped.

🇨🇳🇰🇵 Finished in 2014. Finally opened in 2026.

China and North Korea officially opened the New Yalu River Bridge on 15 October—after a 12-year delay.

The roughly 3km crossing connects Dandong with Sinuiju, creating a new route for cross-border trade. Its opening was delayed by unfinished infrastructure on the North Korean side.

A bridge built years ago is finally becoming an active economic link.

How much will it change trade between the two neighbours? 👇

Qatar’s emir told his people to prepare for the worst. Egypt’s president warned the country could be ignited.
On October 13, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim told the Shura Council: “We must also be prepared for the worst-case scenarios.”
He said institutions and citizens alike must take responsibility.
Qatar was hit by the US-Israel war on Iran, with Hormuz blocked and its Ras Laffan energy hub damaged.
On October 14, Egypt’s President Sisi warned that pressures in the region “might try to ignite the situation in Egypt.”
He said unrest like 2011 could threaten the survival of the state and blamed rumours and psychological warfare.
Neither leader said a new war is about to start.

Released despite Marine Corps legal threats. Watch what these Marines say about a little girl.
The footage is from Combat Obscura, a 2018 documentary by former Marine combat cameraman Miles Lagoze.
It was filmed in Helmand, Afghanistan, in 2011 and shows Marines rolling hashish and joking about a young Afghan girl.
The Marine Corps claimed ownership of the footage and NCIS opened an investigation, but a Pentagon review cleared the film.
It shows one unit’s footage, not every soldier who served.
The Costs of War project at Brown University counts 46,319 Afghan civilians killed directly in the war from 2001 to 2021.
Just a joke or a disgrace?

Colombia has opened an embassy in Jerusalem, completing a dramatic reversal of the policy pursued by former President Gustavo Petro.

Petro severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 2024 over the war in Gaza, closed Colombia’s embassy in Tel Aviv and halted coal exports to Israel.

Under new President Abelardo de la Espriella, Colombia has now restored diplomatic relations, reinstated its free-trade agreement with Israel and opened a new embassy in Jerusalem.

The embassy opened on October 14, making Colombia the 10th government with an embassy in Jerusalem.

The location is highly sensitive. Israel considers Jerusalem its capital, while Palestinians seek East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. Most countries continue to maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv while saying Jerusalem’s final status should be resolved through negotiations.

Palestinian officials condemned Colombia’s decision. Jordan also condemned the embassy opening and said it violated international law and relevant international resolutions.

Colombia and Israel also have longstanding security ties. Colombia’s new ambassador has been tasked with expanding cooperation in trade, security, intelligence, cybersecurity and information sharing.

Trump says a US Senate candidate is in the Muslim Brotherhood. Here is what the evidence shows.
On October 14 in Bullhead City, Arizona, President Trump said Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed “is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood” and that “he said that years ago.”
El-Sayed is a doctor born in Michigan and the former Detroit health director. He would be the first Muslim US senator.
He told NBC: “I have no ties. We have no ties.”
A Bridge Michigan fact check found no evidence he is a member or ever pledged support to the group.
Critics point to his half-sister’s 2012-13 posts about family ties to the group. He calls them hearsay.
Fair question or smear?

“Why are you all here making money off of bombs killing my family?”
Protesters interrupted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the AUSA conference in Washington DC on October 14.
He was on a panel about autonomous warfare and drones.
At least five protesters were removed, one holding a “No War With Iran” banner.
CODEPINK says Iranian Americans took part, including a NIAC staffer who shouted “Stop bombing my family in Iran.”
Hegseth joked “She thinks highly of me” as the crowd chanted “USA.”
The US and Israel began striking Iran on February 28. A strike on a school in Minab killed at least 156, Iranian officials say.
Brave protest or disrespect?

DeSantis signed a law to “ban Sharia” in Florida. Here is what it really does.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB 1471 in Tampa on April 6, 2026. It took effect July 1.
It bars Florida courts from applying foreign or religious law if that would violate constitutional rights.
The bill names Sharia law as an example of religious law.
DeSantis called it the “most robust action” against Sharia of any state.
He said Florida “must operate under one legal system” and “the Constitution must remain the law of the land.”
Most of the bill lets Florida designate groups as terrorist organizations, cut their funding and dissolve them.
CAIR-Florida says courts already put the Constitution first and calls the Sharia part “a distraction” from an “anti-free speech” law.
Needed law or political stunt?
Comment 1 for needed, 2 for stunt.

He went viral as “the only Saudi at OpenAI.” Weeks later, the FBI arrested him.
In a September interview, OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan said one year at the company “felt like five years anywhere else.”
On September 30, OpenAI found a hidden recording device behind a TV in an executive conference room.
The FBI arrested Alfozan on October 9 and charged him with using a device to intercept oral communications.
Prosecutors say a similar device was found in his bag and that he had booked a one-way flight to Saudi Arabia.
OpenAI fired him and says it found no sign that model weights, code or customer data were taken.
His lawyer says the allegations are “wholly out of character.” He is not charged with espionage and has not been convicted.
Should AI labs be guarded like military sites?
Comment 1 for yes, 2 for no.
