Rough preflight briefing at 6 AM and your usual pilot friend isn't up yet? The PlaneWX mentor network matches you with a pilot who has more experience in your aircraft, so you get a second set of eyes before you head to the airport. The call is still yours.

PlaneWX is honored to be in @flyingmagazine with our partner 5X5 Aviation Insurance.

5X5 is aviation insurance built by and for people who fly. They reward pilots for the habits that make flying safer: annual training, flight hours, owners and pilots association membership, and a well-kept, hangared airplane. Their discounts run from 5% to 20%, with no broker.

We're proud to be their exclusive partner. PlaneWX Pro Plus members can earn up to 10% off their aircraft insurance through 5X5, based on underwriting guidelines.

5X5 rewards safe pilots. PlaneWX powers it.

55% and a storm cell on the route.

First leg of a Cranbrook weekend. The WX Score says 55%: a convective SIGMET en route, possible icing, moderate turbulence. This morning the storm was over Lubbock. Now it's tracking northeast.

In the TBM, that's a solvable problem. File out to Lubbock, go around it, come back up. Then there's an AIRMET for moderate turbulence from the surface to 18,000 feet.

Brief. Assess. Decide. Debrief. PlaneWX never recommends go or no-go. The pilot makes the call.

Before every flight, Mark sits down with his weather briefing and an honest PAVE self-assessment: pilot, aircraft, environment, external pressures. How rested am I? Am I stressed? Am I current? Built on the FAA's PAVE framework, with the briefing pulled right in.

In case you missed it: the new PlaneWX Newsroom is live, and all week we've been sharing Ken Dustin's 7-day weather strategy.

The Newsroom is where we post real trip strategies, partner features and product updates from pilots who fly like it's their job. planewx.ai/news.

First up is Ken of Kneeboard Pro and IMC TV Media. He plans a real trip from a week out, Norwood to Cleveland and back, using PlaneWX, the prog charts on Aviation Weather and his EFB. He walks through what to check at 7 days, 5 days, 3 days, the night before and the day of, all the way to his risk assessment and printed kneeboard.

Most tools only help you a day or three out. PlaneWX watches your trip from a week out and scores it against your own personal minimums, so you see the forecast take shape instead of meeting it the night before. You make the call.

Watch Ken's full strategy and grab his printable checklist. Comment NEWS and we'll DM you the link.

How do you put a number on the risk of a flight? The WX Score starts with your personal minimums: ceilings, crosswind, icing and turbulence tolerance. Then it scores them against your aircraft. IFR-rated? FIKI equipped? You get a score, and you make the call.

Most bad launches aren't mysteries. They're late decisions.

PlaneWX founder Mark Wolfgang wrote a new piece in @flywithaopa on the loop PlaneWX is built on: Brief. Assess. Decide. Debrief. Score the weather against your personal minimums, assess the risks before you go, make the call, and debrief when you land. Staying home is a legitimate outcome, not a failure.

Thanks to @flightchops for sharing how PlaneWX helped him pick the weather window to get the Chipmunks to Oshkosh.

Day of. Ken Dustin at IMC TV sees his WX Score still at 100%, and he works through a PAVE risk assessment anyway. Pilot: "Am I a little tired? Maybe." Plus currency. Aircraft: maintenance, weight and balance, fuel. Environment: flying into a Bravo. External pressures. Good weather is only one part of the go/no-go. The assessment comes back favorable. Ken makes the call. That wraps the series.

The night before. "The weather picture is almost fully developed." With the GFA now out, Ken Dustin at IMC TV checks TAFs, ceilings, visibility, and NOTAMs, then reruns PlaneWX. If he knows his departure time, he files IFR. For an early start, he prints his kneeboard. Tomorrow: the day-of go/no-go.

3 days out. Ken Dustin at IMC TV goes back to his weather strategy checklist. He runs the new prog chart for departure day, checks MOS in his EFB, and looks at how his PlaneWX score has changed. Then he thinks about fuel. Even with the weather looking good, Ken keeps considering his bailout strategy. Tomorrow: the night before.

The flight starts 7 days out. Ken Dustin at IMC TV, CFI and volunteer pilot, shares how he watches the weather all week before a trip, starting with a 7-day look using PlaneWX. This is part of a four-part series: 7 days out, 3 days out, the night before, and the day-of go/no-go. Tomorrow: 3 days out.
