Thank you!!! :)))) I’m so proud of myself and incredibly grateful to everyone involved, everyone who came by, and everyone who gave me their support in all kinds of ways. I hope to keep creating more public programs to keep exploring and create dialogues around the human experience.

A special shoutout to José @goodnightrobot , Fernando @apeloproductions , Warren @officialwarrenwalker , and Cari @calinicic for your time, your dedication, and for trusting in my chaotic mind.

Hey everyone!

This Saturday afternoon, come hang out with artist José Duarte Pacheco @goodnightrobot for a hands-on portrait workshop at the studio. We are going to be translating our spirit animals onto paper :)))

You can also come by earlier, starting at 2:00 PM, I will be hosting a radio hangout and Q&A with José before we start creating.

This is a super relaxed space to connect and create together.

You need absolutely zero art experience to join us, and we are providing all the materials you need. Just bring yourself and an open mind.

Becoming Animals, movement workshop by Fernando Troya. @apeloproductions

Throughout these weeks, we are exploring where spirit animals live, how they relate, and how they manifest. With this workshop, we are going to let them out and embrace them in our bodies.

A huge thank you to Fernando Troya for joining the program. This Saturday, July 4, he will be leading the session to help connect with our spirit animals and play with them.

You need zero dance experience to join us, just comfortable clothes.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for the opening weekend of the studio.

We had over 100 humans (and 3 animals!) come through, 80 of you marked the Spirit Animal Spectrum, and 11 people applied to live in the Nieuw-Nest Home.

We have officially landed! 🪐

The Cootidian exhibition by José Duarte Pacheco (@goodnightrobot) is now officially open Fridays (4-8 PM) and Saturdays (2-8 PM). Come hang out!

What is the deal with viruses jumping from animals to humans? 🦇🦠🧟‍♂️🐈‍⬛🦟

This Friday at 8:00 PM I am hosting a live Q&A from the studio with Global Health researcher Warren Walker Dansou. We are talking about zoonosis, which is how diseases cross over from the animal world to humans.

Think Covid 19, hantavirus, mosquito viruses, or even what we could catch from our pets.

You can participate by sending your questions. Ask anything like: “Can my cat give me a cold?” or “How do mosquitoes carry viruses without getting sick?” There are no wrong questions.

This Saturday at 8:00 PM I am hosting Animal Encounters at the studio. It is an alternative speed dating and social night.

The twist is you pick a spirit animal before you arrive and keep it a secret. When you chat with people during the mini dates, you answer their questions based entirely on the logic, daily habits, and vibes of your animal. The main goal of the night is to try and discover each other’s secret animals!

There is no romantic expectation at all. Couples are welcome too. It is just a fun social experiment to strip away the usual small talk.

Introducing the exhibition Cootidian by José Duarte Pacheco, presented as part of the Spirit Animals programme. 🪶
Opening: June 19, from 16:00 onwards
Location: Broedplaats HW10 (Hendrik van Wijnstraat 10, Studio 0.22, 1065 AS Amsterdam)
A few words from the artist on the origins of the work:

“To make trouble is a form of magical act.
This work started for me as a reflection of my uprooting from Portugal to the Netherlands and the feelings of uneasyness and displacement I felt moving to a place that really doesn’t belong to me. And the same could be said about birds... Visitors from far away places who claim their own place in the city.
Through my research into them, I discovered that coots have been compared to humans since at least the medieval era. They were often described by medieval sources as the species of birds with the most similarities to humans.
The most human of birds right? That’s why I began doing the drawings, so that I could make the coots do human things.
The human and the bird figure switch positions. This allowed me to reflect on the strangeness of the actions and tasks we do everyday and the perceived normality they have gained through decades or centuries of repetition.”

Through ‘coot vignettes’, José comedically recollects anecdotal tales of flying, living, dating, eating, birthing, dancing and more.
The language barrier between birds and humans becomes blurry. Are we projecting human behaviour onto birds or are they?
