The Knicks Parade was so much more than basketball.
It was hugging complete strangers like family.
Laughing, celebrating, and high-fiving people from every walk of life.
Running into old friends and making mucho new ones.
For one unforgettable day, New York City moved as one heartbeat.
I carried my “BELT TO AZZ” painting through the streets and the love was incredible. Thousands of people stopped, took photos, shared stories, and embraced the energy behind it. That inspiration led to my new anthem by my alter ego Deo Valentino sings “Belt to Azz”.
This moment reminded me of something bigger:
Forget the doubters.
Forget the labels.
Forget the judgment.
Stop looking to the side.
Look straight up to God.
When faith is stronger than fear, all things become possible.
Thank you to everyone who believed when the vision wasn’t obvious. Thank you to every dreamer who keeps moving forward against the odds. Belief is not weakness—it is the pathway to the light.

My heart is heavy hearing about the transition of Danny Simmons.

King Danny, I always called him, was one of those rare souls who genuinely wanted to see people win. After I escaped the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and was trying to rebuild my life and my art career, Danny was one of the very first people to give me an opportunity to exhibit my work. Through Rush Arts, he opened doors for me and so many other artists. I’ll never forget that.
Even before Katrina, Danny believed in my art. When he curated the Pepsi-sponsored national art exhibition and calendar project, he flew me from New Orleans to New York to be part of that incredible experience. Opportunities like that changed lives. They certainly helped change mine.
I always looked forward to seeing Danny. He had a calming spirit, a positive outlook, and a way of finding hope even during difficult times. I honestly can’t remember ever hearing anyone say a bad word about him. He moved through this world with grace, compassion, generosity, and a deep commitment to community.
I was blessed to be part of several Rush Arts exhibitions, including a beautiful group show in Philadelphia. When Danny moved there, he even invited me to make the move too. I wasn’t quite ready to leave Harlem yet, but that invitation spoke volumes about the kind of person he was—always making room for others at the table.
We also shared roots in Hollis, Queens, another familiar connection that always made us laugh out loud.
Danny Simmons touched the lives of an infinite number of artists, and through those artists, he touched countless more people around the world. His legacy isn’t only in the galleries he founded or the opportunities he created. It’s in the confidence he gave people, the encouragement he offered, and the belief that our stories, our communities, and our art matter.
Thank you, Danny, for seeing me, supporting me, mentoring me, and reminding so many of us to keep creating, keep believing, and keep lifting each other up.

God bless you, Danny.

The 🫡🧡💙New York Knicks have been in my life since childhood.
From sitting courtside with my father... to summers at Knicks camps... to watching legends at Rucker Park... to seeing my own son hit a game-winning shot at Madison Square Garden.
Basketball taught me about community, discipline, creativity, passion, confidence, resilience, work ethic and love.
To everyone who has shared this journey through the generations—and to those celebrating from above—this season is for Us.
This is bigger than basketball.

Peace Family ✨
I created this Harlem emblem a few months ago, and now to see it all over Harlem is really blowing my mind. I’m super proud and grateful that my design was accepted to help represent all the beautiful activities and energy happening throughout Harlem.
I’m a fourth-generation Harlemite. Both my grandparents lived in Harlem, and Harlem helped shape my entire imagination and art aesthetic. Going to the Apollo Theater as a kid and seeing James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and so many legends perform… then going to Rucker Park and watching Joe Hammond, Pee Wee Kirkland, Fly Williams and all these larger-than-life personalities, Lewis Micheaux and the Tree of Life bookstore… all of that became part of my spirit and my artwork.
I truly love Harlem with all my heart. Everything I create comes from that love.
What’s really exciting is if you see this emblem around Harlem, you can activate it as a QR code and connect to special events, updates, experiences, and more information about what’s happening in Harlem. I love bringing art, technology, culture, and community together in a new way.
I’m very grateful Harlem is open to my new ideas, imagination, and creativity. I only want the best for the Harlem community and for the next
generation to continue pushing culture forward.

We're thrilled to share our four completed murals at NYCHA’s Harlem River Houses, by artists Marthalicia Matarrita (@marthalicia) and Paul Deo (@planetdeo). Marthalicia’s murals, “Courtyard's Embrace” and "The Macombs Bridge that Unites the Past and Present,” stand at the northern entrance to the campus, while Paul’s mural, “Portal to Infinity” (on two walls) anchors the southern end. The murals serve as entry points, welcoming the community into Harlem River.

Over 12 weeks, Marthalicia and Paul worked with residents to weave their stories into the designs. "Courtyard's Embrace" (Image 1) reflects memories shared by elders of the community–they would look out their windows, keeping an eye on the children at play. Communal care built a sense of security among neighbors, knowing younger generations were kept in sight.

"The Macombs Bridge that Unites the Past and Present" (Image 2) highlights the impact of migration on the evolution of the Harlem Renaissance and the rich cultural fabric of Harlem. The presence of the natural world reflects the relationship between the migration of humans, plants, and animals and their effect on the landscape over time.

“Portal to Infinity” (Images 3, 4, 5) celebrates community, honoring local heroes and history. One side depicts a joyous gathering inside a Harlem River apartment. Where generations unite, the wall honors the sacredness of family and strength found in collective history. On the other side, Paul depicts the exterior of Harlem River as a vibrant garden of life. Figures soar, transcending earthly limitations, portraying each person’s innate power to rise. The mural reflects the community’s boundless capacity to create, love, and heal.

An official opening for the murals and our engagement at Harlem River will take place this spring when we unveil artist Kim Dacres’ (@kim_bo915) “Fountain Keepers,” four site-specific bronze sculptures that will be installed around Harlem River’s central fountain.
