Listening Party tonight at 7PM UK time (GMT+1) - RSVP on BandcampLink in my bio to full Bandcamp release ⬆Following the release of my drone album 'Spells for Warding Off Evil' (ST03) on Jo Johnson's @silver.threads.label in May, @systemrevival asked me to play a live set inspired by the album at @iklectikartlab in London. Recorded directly from the mixing desk, this album captures me revisiting and reinventing the album over the course of 50 minutes. As well as presenting music from the album, the process of preparing for this event inspired me to create some new low-tempo, pulse-driven music, building the flow of the night from a deep listening experience into the techno focussed sets that were to follow by @sebastianmullaert and @kangding_ray. The line up was completed by Jo Johnson ((live) @jojohnson.tinysilences, Bea Brennan (live) @bea_brennan, Rami Abi Rafi presenting INSIJAM @ramiabirafi , Sebastian Mullaert and Kangding Ray presenting music from the Sirãt OST. Plant43 - Mycelium Network EPReleases: 24th July 2026For the 18th release on Plant43 Recordings, I return to a source of inspiration to which I’m no stranger, the fascinating world of Fungi. On 'Mycelium Network' I explore this fascinating life form in four new spatial electro tracks.Did you know that the mushrooms that you find on the surface of the earth are only the fruitbody of the fungi? Underneath them hides mycelium, a root-like structure that can span vast areas. Its thread-like fibres gather nutrients, connecting and co-evolving with other plants. Research has found that it plays an important part in our ecosystems and has the potential to eradicate petroleum products, pesticides and can be used as a filter to remove microorganisms from soil or water. Life cycle analysis has revealed its viability as a carbon sink material, with the ability to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.The natural world has always provided inspiration and solace for me. The astonishing complexity in the ways that plants and animals have evolved over millenia. Studying these things reminds me of how incredible and unique our planet is and how important it is to protect it.These tracks are all taken from my recent live sets, which I’ve been lucky enough to play in places I’ve always dreamed of going, including a recent trip to Japan. A few videos of @plant43 revisiting and reinventing Spells For Warding Off Evil (ST03) at @systemrevival x @iklectikartlab last Saturday. That system really brought out the low end vibrations! The process of getting ready for this event inspired Emile to create some new low-tempo, pulse-driven music, which built the flow of the night perfectly, I think. I played before Emile and he was followed by @kangding_ray who presented his @sirat.film OST and beyond.CDs are still available on Bandcamp and some shops and a new offer price bundle with ST02 – @chloeharris_raica's If Not Now, When – is up today. The first time I’ve had the opportunity to play a drone/ambient set in quite a few years! Thank you so much to everyone who came along and @systemrevival for giving me the opportunity to present ‘Spells For Warding Off Evil’ on Saturday. I’m very happy to announce that my new album ‘Spells for Warding Off Evil’ is out today on @silver.threads.label, the new label curated by my wife and partner of 27 years @jojohnson.tinysilences. Huge thanks to Jo for putting this one out! Please check out the label as I think all of the releases so far are amazing and I know she has some incredible stuff in the pipeline too.This album captures my innermost thoughts and emotions and I feel quite vulnerable putting it out there. Most of the tracks were written while recovering from an eye surgery last year and while I’m fully recovered now it was a pretty intense and difficult time.The core of the sounds used here all come from my vintage analogue Roland SH-101. While experimenting in the studio I accidentally pressed the Hold button on its internal sequencer and I had no idea until that moment that the SH-101 is not only adept at creating the short arpeggiated phrases you can hear in my electro tracks but also rich and complex drones. The experience was very meditative, sometimes relaxing and sometimes cathartic. Interacting directly with a single sound source in headphones allowed me to express all sorts of emotions and ideas.In these recordings, I was exploring the feeling of helplessness that some people are being duped into blaming other people who are different to them for their problems. Witnessing the rise of the far right, racism, misogyny, climate change denial and the election of totalitarian leaders has been very sad and concerning. It can feel like these people are trying to turn back the clock to a place where all the progress we’ve made is reversed. This is my way to speak out and let people who share my way of thinking know that they aren’t alone and to offer support to people who are affected by the hatred being sowed.Link in my bio to listen or head over to @silver.threads.label to find out more.Thanks for all the support so far and for listening.Emile by @plant43
