I may look cool as a cucumber.
——————————————————
But I was sweating buckets! It was hot as fish grease in the beautiful greenhouse at @larchmont_nurseries! Being in front of the camera always makes me immediately uncomfortable. My smile turns to plastic and and I just feel goofy AF.
———————————————————
When I was approached about writing “Happy Plants, Happy You” I knew I could do it. The writing part, that is. But the pictures? Well, the idea of photo shoots that would be hours long, on multiple days, with all eyes on me? That was terrifying! I rescheduled it a dozen times, until I’d finally run out of excuses. It was time to pay the piper.
————————————————————
You know what I learned? The scenes I’d cooked up in my head were WAY scarier than it actually was (I’ve read one too many Stephen King books and don’t ask😂😂). Turns out it was actually—dare I say, fun? Especially with the help of @raquelchaylanbeauty makeup magic, and of course plants! By my third photo shoot, I felt like a pro! These pics did not make the cut. I can’t wait for you to see the beautiful images that @cbohn captured! The book hits the stores in September but you can pre-order your copy now (hit the link in my bio).

At the risk of sounding cliché, it’s true what they say: feel the fear and do it anyway! What’s something that you’ve wanted to do, and you’re letting fear stop you?

Happy Plants, Happy You!
————————————————————-
This plant journey has been full of wonderful surprises! And nothing has been more surprising than an email I received in the fall of 2022 from @jessicawalliser at @quartobooksus asking me if I wanted to write a book. A BOOK! I love plants, but ya’ll know books are my first love!
——————————————————————-
I have always wanted to be a published author. I was an English major, and wanted to pursue a writing career after college, but was afraid to step out on faith to pursue that dream. So I took the road more frequently traveled, and went to law school. It seemed like a safer bet. If there’s one thing that I want you to get from this book (besides all the plant love), is that your story is still being told. Wherever you are in life is just where you are at that present moment, the rest is still unwritten. I am less than a month away from my 52nd birthday, and when I tell you that it’s never too late to do WHATEVER it is that you have been dreaming of I REALLY mean its never too late. Life is full of surprise and wonder.
————————————————————————
I have so much more to share, but I am a Pisces and I’m getting hella emotional writing this. I’ll put a pin in it for now. Hit that link in my bio and pre-order your copy of Happy Plants, Happy You! In stores September 2023!

Here’s what I have learned.
—————————————————————
When you live in an area with cold winters, it’s great to bring plants outside if you have the space for it. I’ve been doing this now for several years here’s what I’ve learned:
Do not bring every single plant outside. Remember all that plant shopping that you did during the summer( you know you did)? It’s quite an eye-opener when you have to move all of their asses back inside and 1/4 of them have no where good to go. Keep some inside. They’ll serve as that gentle reminder, that reality check.
—————————————————————————
The growth outside will be tremendous! So will the need to get everyone repotted, cause the roots are busting out. I didn’t even bring everyone outside, and I’ve already had to do so much repotting. It feels a little unfair. That lets me know that next summer I’ll bring even fewer plants out.
———————————————————————
Let’s take it to the comments: for those living in temps like mine (NY) do you bring your plants outside for the summer?

Why be basic, when you can BEDAZZLE!

I’m officially in my razzle-dazzle era. I was heading out for a garden trip and wanted a plant-inspired look, but all my plantwear is for warm weather. Here in New York, fall has shown up with a grudge to settle. None of it was going to work.

Instead of buying something new, I made something new! This old blazer was languishing in the back of my closet. Ever since bedazzling my first t-shirt this summer, the situation has quickly escalated. Nothing in my is safe! It can all get that razzle-dazzle!

Save this for when you’re ready to upgrade your basic blazer and follow for more plant-inspired bedazzle!

Unpopular opinion:

Pretty ceramic planters are for DROPPING IN,
not potting in!

Nursery pots have way more drainage holes than ceramic planters. That means more drainage, more aeration, a better chance of plant survival.

Keep them in plastic so you’re never taking a hammer to a rootbound plant!

You team drop in or pot in?

Epipremnum Pinnatum Albo growth progress from Feb 2023 to today!

I bought this plant during peak Covid plant prices, so throwing her away when she rapidly declined was NOT an option. One emergency repot in March 2024 turned everything around. She was SEVERELY rootbound. As in, I had to CUT her out of the pot! Her thick juicy roots were being choked. Hanging my head in shame, cause that was on me.

With the room to breathe and grow, she did a complete 180! She was putting out crazy new growth, and this time I knew not to wait. I immediately repotted her again, one year later (the lesson was learned).

This beauty is proof that patience and consistency pay off! Are you team “never give up?”

On this day we said I DO!

Time truly does fly when you are having FUN! I am so grateful for this life we have built, rooted in love and family! The two most important things in this life.

Cheers to TWENTY TWO MORE AND THEN SOME!!

Are you celebrating an anniversary this month? Drop in below, let’s CELEBRATE!

#anniversary #celebrate

Fun fact: we saw Prince twice during the summer just before we got married. The lyrics to Adore are so perfect for a wedding song. Until the end of time….

We still have these crystal flutes, we break them out every single year on this day.

This was our very first trip to Martha’s Vineyard, August of 2021. We’d just met the month before. We wasted no time, when you know you know.

Most recent trip to MV, August 2026. We tried to recreate the pic. How did we do?

One of many trips to Martha’s Vineyard with our girls.

The Vineyard again…

Martha’s Vineyard…again. It’s a tradition.

And then the MOTHERLAND. We went to Ghana in August of 2025. A transformational trip!

Nothing is more important to Eddie and I, than FAMILY. Both biological and chosen. It’s the foundation.

We celebrated this year with a DEEP STRETCH @stretchlabofficial. Now it’s all about making sure we celebrate 22 more and then some! 😆😆 taken in It's Our Day by @plantblerd

About last night!

A garden party loves to see me coming cause I am going to do THEE most—on THEME of course! I had the pleasure of attending The Gardener’s Party at @wavehill last night.

What an absolutely STUNNING garden, and it overlooks the Hudson River! Water views + plants? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU! The funds raised support the John Nally Internship, a paid apprenticeship that trains the next generation of plant loving horticulturists.

Swipe to see this beautiful garden—and more angles of my planty suit! 😅😅

Have you visited Wave Hill? Drop your favorite botanical spot. 👇🏾

I got my first taste of bedazzling in July. I razzled up a t-shirt for the Jay-Z concert. It has since escalated quickly! I bedazzled a dress for a sweet 16 and now I’ve moved onto my own wardrobe. I thought this embroidered suit wasn’t quite over the top enough, added some sparkle to the lapel. Why be basic when you can bedazzle? 😅😅😅

I mean this view!

This was my FAVORITE planting! So cool and sculptural! That lemon lime plant that is STEALING the show is Tokyo Sun Sedum. Unfortunately, it’s not hardy in my zone (7B) so I won’t be adding it to my yard, but I am on the hunt for something similar. The other sedums are hardy here. Yay!

Plants on the porch: PART TWO

I completely forgot to include my Epripemnum Pinnatum ‘albo’ in the first video. After you watch this one, go back and take a look at the rest of the plants that made it outside onto the porch this year.

But this beauty right here: I am super proud of her growth! This plant joined the collection in February 2023. I was totally blown away when I stumbled upon it in a local nursery. But as the months went on, the shine wore off and I had buyer’s remorse.

It had a really weird growth pattern and I just was not impressed. But I bought this plant during Covid, and if you know anything about panorama plant prices you know this baby was not cheap. I gave it a fresh repot and a little more time.

I’m so glad we hung, now she is everything I dreamed she could be! Sometimes that new plant is not dramatic or ugly (shhh), it just needs time to acclimate to the new growing environment and care routine.
