There’s a reason I grow my own herbs instead of buying them dried in bulk from suppliers for my body care products. Every season, I plant, tend, harvest, and dry each herb with love and care, with the help of my trusty assistant of course. 🥰 I know exactly how the herbs were grown and handled from seed to mindfully dried. Fresher herbs naturally retain more of the vibrant color, aroma, and plant compounds that make them wonderful allies for our skin.✨🧴

Also, when my ingredients come from my own land, I’m reducing shipping, packaging waste, and the overall footprint of what I make. 🌎

And perhaps my favorite reason of all is I get to spend my days working alongside the plants, while sharing the seasons and folk traditions with my family. 👩🏼‍🌾 by @planthugcare

The conversation about what is really sustainable design in cosmetic packaging MUST include lifecycle assessments, real-world data, and education, accessibility and availability on disposal (end-of-life). ♻️

I see many brands and companies touting that they use “sustainable packaging” based on the fact that they use glass packaging over plastic. While I don’t personally want to advocate for the use of plastic, this kind of blanket statement and simplistic approach leans to more greenwashing. 🌎

I don’t want my business to be another greenwashed bodycare company claiming to protect and honor the environment only to create more pretty trash in the world. It’s a fine line to offer products that truly serve a need and connect folks with nature, as I believe is my mission and purpose with Plant Hug, while trying to minimize negative effects on the planet. Everything we do has an impact and I will always be working to reduce that as much as possible, while being transparent about the process and dilemma! 🧩

For a while, using my baby’s skincare products was cost-effective and got the job done. But deep down I craved a little more…a simple, yet nurturing self-care ritual to take care of my skin and soothe this tired, overstimulated, sensitive mama. 😓

I’ve struggled to find products that truly feel good for my skin and my senses: smooth textures, plant-based, no added fragrances, something that fits within my budget, and is a little more luxurious than baby lotion.🧴

So I started making my own, born out of my very own garden.🌼👩🏼‍🌾

Now I’m building Plant Hug, crafting gentle, sensory-friendly products with my unique farm-to-skin formulating approach, honoring both sensitive skin and sensitive systems. 🦋🌹

After a decade of pouring myself into art, I’ve stepped into a new chapter rooted in motherhood, herbs, healing, and building my new passion project, Plant Hug Skincare. 🌱🌼

What once fueled my spirit began draining it, and stepping back gave me space to rediscover what is nourishing me right now: growing herbs, crafting skincare for fellow sensitives like me, and tending to both my family and myself.

I’m still an artist and I plan to find my way back to sculpting. However, right now my creativity blooms in the garden, in the lab, and in the comfort these products bring. 🐻💚

Follow along as I share the process of how I create my offerings and grow this new venture, along with the lessons and challenges that come with it! 🪴🫧

I’m proud to be applying all that I’ve been learning in my Diploma program in Organic Skincare Formulation! A long, raw update and some questions for ya if ya feel inclined. 💚

In summary, I’m considering adding tallow into my products to help reduce the environmental impact of sourcing my ingredients(have a local source vs getting butters overseas.) This also introduces nutrients and benefits in it’s own right! What are your thoughts on this? Are you pro tallow or no? Let me know! by @planthugcare

Happy Small Biz Saturday! Today I’m featuring my aloe vera soap, which currently I’m using on repeat yall. 💚Usually when you think about aloe you probably slathering it on a sunburn on a hot summer day, but for me I consider it essential in the fall and winter since my skin is drying out and getting itchy from the cold. 🥶 Made with my own grown aloe blended into all organic oils and butters, it helps me get clean while at the same time providing hydration, support and nutrients for my skin. Of course as soon as I hop out of the shower I use my Juniper Berry & Pine Face Oil and my Meadow Harvest Body Butter while my skin is still slightly damp to lock in that moisture and provide further nutrients and protection. What are you using to help combat the itchies this winter?? ❄️
