Shell’s Chairman says that it is “not legally or scientifically credible” to link one company’s actions to a specific climate-fuelled event. But it’s not his job to decide.

103 people in the Philippines are suing Shell in the UK courts to hold them accountable for the damage they endured from a fossil-fuel-driven super typhoon.

You can learn more about the Odette case, and climate attribution science, using the links in the comments.

Life update: I’m officially an Oxford student! Today, I matriculated at @oxford_uni where I’ll be spending the next year reading for an MSc Environmental Change and Policy.

True to form, I managed to fit in a photo shoot in my college’s gorgeous community garden, snapping a nail, spilling sauce on my white shirt, and spending about 8 hours yapping with friends.

The @unep released a report yesterday that should be a wake up call for the whole world. It tells us that we are very likely to overshoot 1.5 degrees of global warming in the next few years, and that we have an awful lot of work to do to get things back on track.

So read the post, then give me a follow to learn more about climate change and what you can to do to help. Let’s all roll up our sleeves and get to work on fixing the world, starting right now. 🌎🌱

Here are some of the environmental issues across Australia that I am keeping a keen eye on, as a law graduate currently doing a master’s in environmental policy at the University of Oxford.

Which of these news stories did you already know about? What ones would you suggest I add to my list to keep an eye on and learn about? Let me know!

P.S. these were all photos I happened to have in my camera roll, of beaches in Queensland and the Northern Territory - Australia is so gorgeous!
P.P.S. You can see my family’s dog on the second-last slide.

What a fun day! Today, my Environmental Change & Policy cohort went on a field trip around Oxford and Wytham Woods. I loved the chance to spend a day out in nature, chatting with friends and considering really thought-provoking questions about the environment.

If you have any thoughts on the questions on slides 10-11, let me know in the comments!

Does this way of explaining El Niño make sense to you? And, how would you explain it to a friend? Let me know in the comments!

The climate crisis is also a communication crisis, so on this page, I try to explain complex ideas in easy & accessible ways. Conversations can really make a difference and change people’s minds.

We live in a world of extremes, and we’re constantly made to feel like we’re not doing enough. We don’t have the perfect skin, perfect diet and perfect washboard abs that the influencers seem to have, so somehow, we’re falling behind.

I’ve noticed this extreme mentality spread across into the world of environmentalism as well, and often see people challenging others over small parts of their lives. Why does she use plastic sometimes? Why did she eat that one meal, or take that one flight?

While it’s good to help motivate others to be better environmentalists, I think this kind of guilt-tripping perfectionism does exactly the opposite. It scares people off when they are right at the beginning of their environmental journey, and can even lead to backlash against the environmental movement as a whole.

On my page, I’m all about embracing imperfection, and I value effort, intention & moving in the right direction. If that sounds like the right fit for you, consider giving me a follow and sticking around!

P.S. I mean no hate to the three specific models I showed at the beginning of the video. I just wanted to use the VS fashion show as a classic example of elevated, impossible beauty standards.

Nigeria is projected to record the highest number of additional heat-related deaths of any country in the world between September 2026 and February 2027, according to research by the @uchicago's Climate Impact Lab.

The reason why Nigeria is so vulnerable is not surprising.

Extreme heat is more dangerous when people cannot afford to protect themselves from it. High poverty levels, unreliable electricity, limited access to cooling and inadequate healthcare leave millions more exposed.

Outdoor workers face additional risks because they cannot simply escape the heat.
Think Children, your @chowdeck Riders, Hawkers, Farmers traffic wardens, Police officers.

The consequences of El Nino are usually not shared equally: people with the fewest resources to adapt often face the greatest danger.

These deaths can be reduced if Governments across the country act now, by strengthening early-warning systems, establishing cooling centres and hydration stations, protecting outdoor workers during peak-heat hours, and preparing hospitals for a surge in heat-related illnesses.

For you and I, stay hydrated always, follow @officialnimetng for authentic information and share this with a friend.

Mostly, I think bedazzling trends are pretty silly and wasteful. But today, I spent a bit of time putting stickers on my bike, for a good reason.

Winters get very dark in Oxford, and bikes ride on the roads with the regular cars and other traffic here. I live near one of the biggest bike crash hotspots in the whole town, so I want to take every step possible to make sure drivers can see me in the dark.

The stickers are also part of my five step plan to make sure my bike doesn’t get stolen, as bike theft is unfortunately very common here. Here are the steps:

1. ALWAYS lock the bike up securely, even if only walking away for a few minutes.
2. Use a heavy duty bike lock (ideally a D-lock or thick chain), and loop it through both the chain & wheels.
3. Ride a secondhand bike that looks a little bit scuffed/ inexpensive, so it isn’t a target for theft.
4. Make sure the bike is colourful and distinctive, so it can be easily recognised/ tracked if stolen.
5. Remove all easily removable parts when parking (basket, lights, helmet etc).

What measures do you take to keep yourself and your bike safe when cycling around? Let me know!

Today, I had an unexpected visitor! This little snail was clinging on to a pot of herbs that was sitting on the windowsill in my bedroom. 🐌🌱

I believe that every little life deserves protecting, and that snails are really misunderstood little creatures. I kept one as a pet in my school desk for a day when I was little, so maybe I’m biased towards them! 😅

Something important to remember when rescuing/ relocating snails: yanking them off the surface where they are clinging can cause muscle collapse and death. Instead, gently tap on the shell to make them withdraw before moving them, or if you can, move the whole surface they are sitting on like I did.

Are you a snail rescuer or a snail squisher? I hope this post can help you change your mind, if you think snails are pests. Try to be gentle & kind, even to little creatures.

I’m at the end of my first proper week of classes at @oxford_uni and my head is spinning! 😵‍💫

Already, I have been exposed to so many challenging ideas and new ways of thinking, that are making me question my approach to problem-solving, advocacy and environmentalism generally.

Here are just a few of the challenging ideas I have come across in week one, and some of my reflections on them. My goal is to keep an open mind and to learn from all of the people around me, as I’ve met so many brilliant & interesting teachers and students so far.

And I also want to learn from you! Do you have any thoughts on AI, climate change, hope, constructive disagreements or the power of individual choices to share? Do you have any advice for me? Let me know in the comments below.

When you find something that you love, it’s worth investing in repairs so you can hold onto it for longer.

These boots have lasted me for years, and for me, they carry memories of working, walking & dancing in them. And most importantly, they go “tap, tap, tap!”

Get to know your local cobbler, and you might be surprised by how quickly & cheaply they can do simple repairs to extend the life of your shoes by years.
