“Zewed” by Yatreda
Brass and nickel
57 × 45 × 29 cm
Non-fungible token of single-channel video
Edition of 5 + 1 AP

@bosslady_tenu

This first-person perspective brings the viewer to the year 1896, into the heart of the cavalry during the Battle of Adwa, a decisive war in which Ethiopia defeated European colonization.
As the viewer “wears” this male crown, zewed, through the first-person lens, they experience the psychological weight of the protector. Zewed is an exploration of self-sacrifice. The act of placing the community’s survival above one’s own.

The warrior is represented by a black metal bust Atop his head sits a brass crown, a physical twin to the one seen in the digital soul. The crown is custom-forged by Yatreda utilizing the traditional techniques of Ethiopian blacksmiths. By using these ancestral methods, the work carries the memory of the material itself. by @planxgallery

Plan X is pleased to welcome Asif Hoque to Capri for its artist residency program.

Conceived as a period of research, production and exchange, the residency offers artists time to work in direct relationship with the island, allowing its light, atmosphere and cultural memory to enter the process gradually, away from the pace of a traditional exhibition.

For Hoque, whose paintings often move between figuration, mythology and personal history, Capri becomes a place where existing references can shift and new images can begin to take form.

At the end of the residency, the new works produced in Capri will be presented at Plan X Gallery in Milan, creating a direct link between the two locations and extending the project from the island to the city.

Happy to present in Capri a new body of work by Iván Floro @van_vuu

Born in Barcelona in 1993, Iván has developed a very distinctive way of painting, loose, immediate and full of character. His work moves between personal memories and everyday life, mixing nostalgia, irony and references to the counterculture he grew up around.
There’s something familiar in his images, but never too literal. Moments, characters and memories are transformed through his own visual language, giving each painting a feeling that is both intimate and incredibly contemporary.

Now open: “Do You Know Me?” by Cem Hasimi

For his first Italian solo exhibition,Hasimi presents a new series where the face becomes both image and threshold.
Built from hand-drawn lines and digital transformation, the works question how identity is seen, recognised, and reconstructed through the act of looking.

Plan X is pleased to present “Do You Know Me?”, Cem Hasimi’s first solo exhibition in Italy, opening Thursday, September 17, from 7 to 9 PM.

The exhibition brings together a new body of work from the artist’s FACEPRINTS series, exploring identity, uniqueness and the changing ways in which we recognise one another.

Moving between portrait and abstraction, the works reflect on the systems through which identity is perceived, interpreted and classified. Faces emerge and dissolve within shifting fields of lines, remaining recognisable without ever becoming fully fixed.

At the core of the exhibition is a simple distinction: recognising someone is not the same as knowing them. Do You Know Me? considers what remains beyond identification, and how much of an individual can ever be contained in what can be seen or recognised.

Giuseppe Lo Schiavo turns the horizon into a threshold between the real and the imagined.

Framed within a circular opening, the sea appears both familiar and strangely suspended, as if observed from somewhere that does not quite exist. The work plays with perception, using an image we instinctively recognize to create a space that feels just beyond reach.

Lennart Grau’s paintings begin with the visual language of art history, only to loosen it from its original form.

Figures emerge through layers of color, gesture, and movement, suspended somewhere between recognition and abstraction. Familiar references are stretched, softened, and reconfigured until the image seems to shift before the eye.

Here, the body is never entirely fixed. It dissolves into its surroundings, allowing color and surface to carry as much weight as the figure itself.

On view as part of Dreaming in Daylight at Plan X Capri.
