Track Of The Day @jamalbucanon My dude Jamal Bucanon is back with a banger of an indie rock track that had me from the drop. It starts off with a guitar part under Jamal’s mix of rap and singing. Add to that the breakbeat and the passing through of filters and it just gets you bouncing. My favourite part of the song is at 1:29 because the track stops dead and Jamal gives a verbal side eye to his collaborator - then comes back in. It had me chuckling and that’s what sold it to me as my track of the day.

The vocals are very suited to this kind of track it’s got Jamal’s chilled out voice (I know him so I can say this) but at the same time it doesn’t let go of his love for a hip hop groove this could easily have a jungle break to it - big bass lines kicking things off! #music #trackoftheday #instamusic #musicblog #musiciansofinstagram by @platinummind

Throwback Track Of The Day “Both Sixes Of The Story” @officialphilcollins

On 18th October 1993 Phil Collins released this track, the lead single from his album Both Sides and it marked a milestone- the first album where he played every single instrument on each track and even wrote the liner notes by hand.

For me this song is very Genesis, in their 80s era, but also a hint of Face Value - the big snare hits and the concert toms punctuated by the 808 toms, it’s got layers. Add to that the big distorted guitar that Mike Rutherford would love.

Lyrically it talks about hearing both sides of a conflict, and it’s powerful it paints a bleak picture of a world where everyone is fighting in one form or another.

I like the big sounds of this it’s bringing the 80s back again, and it’s very much a Phil Collins kind of song, this could easily have been on But Seriously. This also shows off Phil’s talents - when he recorded the demos for Face Value it was just him, so seeing a return to that is pretty awesome. The rest of the album is worth checking out too. #trackoftheday #musicblogger #instamusic #musiciansofinstagram #music by @platinummind

Track Of The Day “Edge Of The World” @kordakorder

Korda Korder actually made the faves back in March this year and seem to be a favourite among our readers, this is a gentle track built around guitars, drums, bass and vocals, which dips and peaks. This song is about seeing everything and experiencing everything that you can in your life – walking to the edge of the world to rediscover yourself only to come back to just to get a little normality but not ready to talk about it. What I like about this song is the gentleness of the guitars and the fact that Korda Korder have done away with the need to keep the drums throughout the track but when they’re there it makes a big difference.

Korda Korder are a band from Brighton, and have had the nod from John Kennedy at Radio X, and Huw Stevens at BBC 6 Music. #music #musicblog #musicreview #instamusic #musiciansofinstagram by @platinummind

Track Of The Day “Playlist” @claudinetheband To kick off the faves we have a new track from a band called @claudinetheband who make their debut here with us, it starts off with an organ part which is joined by drums played on brushes, as well as some great guitar tones, this song had me from the get go. I like the title as playlists are my favourite thing to create! The vocals are wistful, and according to Shazam this is recorded live. This is the kind of song that you’d expect to hear on an an early morning drive on the radio, it just sets the tone up for the day!

This is a song that’s been released on bandcamp and subvert, it’s the first song I’ve come across that’s on the subvert platform as it goes, I will be interviewing someone in the future from Subvert if I can get hold of them!

Claudine are a band from Cardiff and according to a quick google search this song was born out of late night kitchen demos, it’s a reflection on the DIY nature of the band.

Chillout Track Of The Day “A Man From The Future” @petshopboys

Pet Shop Boys released an album which is pretty much a biography of Alan Turing, the computing genius that helped develop the code and the machine BOMBE to crack Germany’s ENIGMA during World War II. The whole album is an autobiography first performed in 2014 but a new version has been recorded for release this year and for me sees Pet Shop Boys go old school to 1988by combining lush orchestration with spoken word - narrated by Juliet Stevenson, it also reminds me a little of the gravitas carried when Richard Burton narrated War Of The Worlds. It’s poetic and tells a sad story which ends in redemption.

Woven in this track is morse code in the beginning, it’s very sneakily hidden in there, and the builds to the first narration line makes it sounds like an audiobook not to mention a Netflix special - the PSB’s certainly know how to put together a score because that’s certainly what it sounds like.

This track explores Alan’s fascination with science specifically the natural order of things and how the body can be looked at as a machine. When you think about how his life was later that probably fed into his knowledge of coding and how the mind feeds into it and how his future relationships developed. All in all this is worth a listen even if it is to understand who he was. #chillouttrackoftheday #music #musiciansofinstagram #musicblog #instamusic by @platinummind

Track Of The Day - Arm’s Length - @hannahcameronmusic

This track is gorgeous! It drops right in the middle of waking up on New Year’s Day, next to someone that you’ve known for a long time, but it’s like you know the relationship is over because of the body language. At the same time the songwriter is saying that they are memorising everything so that they can keep this moment frozen in time - the physical attributes of the person, down to the mole on their neck the gap in their teeth.

The other person in the bed is holding them at bay, there’s a dividing line, and there seems to be no way past it, the way this song is describing body language in a powerful way, there’s no spoken words between the two people but they both know it can’t carry on this way.

This song is constructed around a guitar that’s got a really nice effect on it - it made me think it’s a synth, but it’s not. Add to that keyboard, drums and bass, and you have a song that will calm you down on a rainy afternoon when there’s nothing on tv.

Hannah Cameron is a singer songwriter from Melbourne, a baritone and a multi instrumentalist. #music #musicreview #instamusic #musiciansofinstagram #trackoftheday by @platinummind

Track Of The Day “Beating Drums” @kim_ralls
Kim Ralls is an artist I’ve kept in touch with since the more simpler times of X and is a folk singer who keeps himself busy on the gig circuit, this is obvious from the cover of his new single Beating Drums. This is folk with a distinctly Celtic flavour. This song is about the turning of the season. The drums could symbolise the rhythm of time, and how things change, but the constant is the beating of the drums. I like how things change in the middle, slowing down the tempo at 1:25 - it’s a gentle tone to call together people from all over the world to stand together moving forward heart to heart and hand in hand, this could be the theme for a harvest/winter solstice festival. Is that a bodhran? Either way what a tune! #music #musicblog #musicreview #instamusic #musiciansofinstagram by @platinummind

Throwback Track Of The Day “Desire” @u2 On this day in 1988 U2 had their first UK number one it was also a No.3 hit in the US and is from their album Rattle And Hum.

In an era where the charts were dominated by pop and dance records this was a big departure - by this point U2 were filling stadiums, having played Wembley arena for two nights for example in 1987. The guitars are big and loud in the intro, before the groove settles into a Bo Diddley style figure. This is pure rock n roll, listen out for the gospel style clapping as well, my favourite part of this track is the drums it’s played mainly on toms and kick - Larry Mullen Junior is getting his money’s worth on this track! Whack in a harmonica solo and this tune’s got it all going. #music #trackoftheday #instamusic #musiciansofinstagram #musicblog by @platinummind
