I wish I was making this up 😭

This skit was actually inspired by a real vocal coaching reel I came across on Instagram 🥲

Doing vocal exercises doesn't automatically mean you're learning to sing.

Don't get me wrong. Vocal warm-ups and exercises absolutely have their place!

But simply following scales, repeating patterns, and being told “good job!” without understanding what you're working towards isn't necessarily helping you develop a skill.

Good vocal training involves learning to:
- Recognize what your voice is doing,
- Explore different ways of producing a sound,
- Notice what changes and what works,
- Reproduce those changes intentionally,
- Apply those skills to actual songs.

The goal isn't to make students better at following exercises. It's to help them become OWNERS of their own voice.

Ultimately, I want my students to understand their voices well enough that they don't need me telling them what to do every step of the way.

That's what vocal coaching means to me.

Your voice “type” doesn't have to define your limits!

Meet my bass student, Sam, who can sing an impressive C2 but had a dream of reaching A4 (and beyond!).

It wasn't a straightforward journey. Reaching this A4 involved a lot of unlearning deeply ingrained habits and developing new vocal coordinations that bass singers often don't get the opportunity to explore.

Don't get me wrong, voice classifications absolutely have their place, especially in choir and classical singing.

But your voice type shouldn't dictate what sounds you're allowed to explore.

Voice science shows us just how adaptable and versatile the human voice can be. With the right training, we can develop new coordinations and discover sounds we never thought possible.

Of course, every voice is different, but your current limitations aren't necessarily your permanent limitations.

Don't let a label decide what your voice can become.
