Luxury Tax

What does it mean to be rich in happiness? This album did it for me!

“Flowers die but diamonds don't-” Skyzoo

When I first listened to the rhymer from Brooklyn that makes it sound effortless Skyzoo, was probably when The Beautiful Decay came out. I was out of school. I made a swing at college and struck out and started moving forward. The sounds that I carried with me, between my ears, were the ones that weren’t always the most publicized. They were the ones that people would put in the “backpack” category or the underground cats that you had to dig through blogs or the net.
I was thinking about yesteryear after listening to Skyzoo’s latest work, Luxury Tax, produced by Apollo Brown from Detroit. I was thinking about those moments when I would smile on walks to lay on the side of the grass by the Adler Plaintarium, with hip-hop in my ears looking at the night skyline, head nodding up and down, filling up my rhyme book. I was rich.
The production and rhymes in Luxury Tax are top-notch, the flow and delivery is top-tier. I can say without a doubt, Skyzoo doesn’t belong in just the underground or in a backpack, it belongs wherever hip-hop is loved, that can be in a stadium or at the ballpark.

I wanted to write a review, but the album speaks louder than any review can do. I stopped myself and to anyone who reads this, the best thing to do is to listen to it.

When we engage in a piece of art, we bring time into the equation. We watch trailers, and read descriptions to see its worth. Slow films or meganovels ask us to look at time differently. Experimental films/literature ask us to focus on a particular emotion/idea or moment, to meditate on it, to take it outside of time, to focus on it. We learn that some ideas, some concepts, and people exist in different states when time is applied.
