MEET SPENCER

Hi, I’m Spencer, founder of Playmaka Sports Performance.

Sports have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I played college baseball at the junior college, NCAA Division III, and NCAA Division I levels, where I experienced firsthand how much quality strength and conditioning can impact an athlete’s development. That experience sparked my passion for sports performance. Along the way, I earned my degree in Kinesiology, became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and committed myself to helping athletes become the best versions of themselves.

But I also realized something: not every athlete has access to the kind of coaching and programming that can truly help them improve.

That’s why I started Playmaka Sports Performance.

My mission is simple: to help athletes maximize their potential through structured, sport-specific strength and conditioning that develops strength, speed, power, and confidence. Not just for the next season, but for long-term athletic success.

My goal is to help you reach the next step in your athletic journey, then continue helping you pursue every goal that comes after it.

Here you’ll find training tips, athlete education, behind-the-scenes coaching, highlights of our athletes on the field and in the weight room, and practical ways to become a stronger, faster, and more resilient athlete.

Thanks for following along. I’m excited to share what we’re building at Playmaka and help as many athletes as possible along the way. 💪🏼 taken in Spokane Valley, Washington by @playmakasp

MOTIVATION MONDAY

When someone tells you that something can't be done, remember that they're speaking from their own perspective, not defining what you're capable of achieving. Their doubts are often shaped by what they've experienced, what they're willing to risk, and what they believe is possible. None of that determines your potential.

As an athlete, you're going to face people who question your abilities, underestimate your goals, or tell you that your dreams are unrealistic. But success isn't built on gaining approval from others. It's built through consistent effort, discipline, and the willingness to keep working toward something even when the results aren't there yet.

Don't let someone else's doubts change the way you approach your goals. Instead, focus on what you can control. Your preparation, your mindset, your habits, and the work you put in every single day. At the end of the day, the only limits that truly matter are the ones you choose to accept. by @playmakasp

MOTIVATION MONDAY

Hard work is a choice. You decide whether you’re willing to put in the effort, even when nobody is watching and even when the work isn’t exciting.

Attitude is a choice. Things won’t always go your way, but you still get to decide how you respond. A good attitude keeps you focused on what you can control instead of letting one bad day, one mistake, or one setback change how you show up.

Discipline is a choice. Motivation comes and goes, but discipline is what keeps you consistent. It’s choosing to stick to your routine, your habits, and your standards even when you don’t necessarily feel like it.

Doing extra is a choice. It’s staying a little longer, getting another rep in, asking questions, taking care of your body, watching film, or working on the part of your game that needs the most attention. The extra work might not always be noticed right away, but over time it creates separation.

And excellence is a choice because it comes from making those decisions over and over again. Excellence isn’t something that just happens on game day. It’s built through the way you work, the attitude you carry, the discipline you develop, and the extra effort you’re willing to give every day.

You won’t be able to control everything that happens in your journey, but these five things are always yours to choose. Choose the habits that move you closer to the athlete you want to become.

MOTIVATION MONDAY

Stop waiting to feel ready. Start working until you become ready.

One of the biggest mistakes athletes make is believing they'll know when the time is right.

They'll start training harder when the season gets closer. They'll become more disciplined when they're older. They'll put in the extra work once they feel more confident.

The truth is, that feeling rarely comes first.

Confidence doesn't show up before the work. Readiness doesn't appear overnight. Both are earned through the choices you make long before anyone else notices.

Every workout, every practice, every early morning, and every setback you push through is preparing you for an opportunity you may not even know is coming. When that opportunity finally arrives, there won't be time to get ready—you'll either be ready or you won't.

The athletes who succeed aren't the ones who waited until they felt prepared. They're the ones who committed to the process even when they doubted themselves. They understood that action creates confidence, and consistency creates readiness.

Don't wait for the perfect moment, because it doesn't exist.

Start today. Keep showing up. Trust that every rep, every practice, and every challenge is moving you one step closer to becoming the athlete you're capable of being. by @playmakasp

MOTIVATION MONDAY

Being mentally tough is when you chose to keep a positive attitude when things aren’t going your way.

It's easy to stay positive when you're winning.

When you're getting playing time, hitting well, setting personal records, or everything seems to be falling into place, having a good attitude doesn't take much effort.

The real test comes when none of those things are happening.

When you're struggling through a slump. When you're not seeing the results you've been working for. When you make mistakes or face setbacks that feel unfair.

Those are the moments that define mental toughness.

Being mentally tough doesn't mean you never get frustrated. It doesn't mean you ignore disappointment or pretend everything is perfect. It means you refuse to let those emotions dictate your attitude, your effort, or the way you treat the people around you.

Anyone can stay positive when life is easy. The athletes who separate themselves are the ones who continue showing up with the same energy, the same work ethic, and the same belief in themselves when things aren't going their way.

Your circumstances won't always be in your control.

Your attitude always is. by @playmakasp

MOTIVATION MONDAY

You become unstoppable when you work on things people can't take away from you. Things like your character, habits, mindset, and attitude.

Every athlete spends time working on things that can be measured. Your speed. Your strength. Your vertical. Your exit velocity. Those are all important, but they're only part of the equation.

The qualities that separate great athletes from everyone else are the ones you can't measure with a stopwatch or a radar gun.

Character is what keeps you doing the right thing when no one is watching. Habits are what allow you to perform consistently instead of relying on motivation. Mindset is what helps you respond to failure with a willingness to learn instead of a reason to quit. Attitude is what determines whether you become someone teammates can count on, regardless of the score.

The reality is that someone will always be faster than you. Someone will always be stronger. Someone may even have more natural talent.

But no one can take away the work you've put in. No one can take away the discipline you've built, the way you respond to adversity, or the standards you've set for yourself.

Those are the qualities that stay with you long after the game is over. They're what help you earn the trust of your coaches, the respect of your teammates, and the confidence that comes from knowing you've done everything you could to prepare. by @playmakasp
