“laniakea” out now. big one ☝🏽
Laniakea is the enormous supercluster of galaxies that contains our Milky Way. Thousands of galaxies moving together through an interconnected cosmic structure toward a mysterious region called the Great Attractor. The name translates loosely to “immense heaven.”

This record reminded me of the incredible peace and stillness that makes up so much of our existence in the vacuum of space. But within that stillness, there’s also unbelievable violence. Stars exploding, galaxies colliding, black holes swallowing matter. All of it happening inside this seemingly peaceful void.

There’s something beautiful about that contradiction. Maybe some interesting parallels to life as we know it. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting the music thus far. It’s a slow roll statistically but I’m falling in love with the process again. by @pleasureform_

The last few years have forced me to question a lot of things I thought I knew about myself. Identity, purpose, memory, the stories we tell ourselves, and how easily the mind can turn fear into fact.
This song came from that place.

It’s about cognitive distortions. Grief. Identity crisis. The strange experience of realizing that an older version of yourself might not exist anymore and not really knowing who is supposed to replace them... by @pleasureform_

this track… I love this track.
It lays along the 140 axis drifting between new school womps and bangin’ trap bass music.
But it’s kind of all over the place 😵‍💫
I think it needs a a rapper, but I wanted to release it as an instrumental because the sounds demand full attention. by @pleasureform_

I’ve rewritten this caption more times than I can count.

The past few years have been the most difficult of my life. They’ve forced me to revisit grief I thought I’d already processed, and somewhere along the way I found myself thinking about my stepfather more than ever before.

John wasn’t a simple man.

He was deeply passionate, endlessly creative, and beautifully complicated. A professional photographer and graphic designer who experienced life with incredible intensity. Growing up, you never really knew what version of him would walk through the door. It wasn’t always easy, but somehow he always found his way back to the same principle:
Love.

Long before I believed I could make a life out of creativity, he believed it for me. When I was sixteen and DJing around Santa Barbara, he treated my dream like it mattered. He helped with my first photo shoots, encouraged my ideas, and quietly laid the foundation for the creative life I’m still trying to build today.

There’s one memory I haven’t been able to shake.
Toward the end of his life, he kept asking me to make him a mixtape. I kept putting it off. I was busy. Distracted. Maybe subconsciously neglectful because I didn’t want him to go. I honestly don’t remember if I ever got it to him before he passed. That thought has stayed with me for years.

While writing this record, something happened that has never happened before. For the first time, I became emotional while making music. I realized this wasn’t a song about grief entirely. but it was more about the magnificent influence John had on me and impressed upon me, the incredible beauty of life, and its tragedies. About the people who continue shaping us long after they’re gone.

Maybe this is the mixtape I never got to give you.
