As a first generation kid of immigrants, a lot has been on my mind lately. People that look just like my family have increasingly been painted as villains in this nation, people that just want to survive as much as anybody else, with hopes and dreams of a better life. That leave their home countries, trading family, friends, and culture for a foreign land surrounded by people that hate them. People that feed this nation, people that help house this nation, and nobody seems to be on the side of them anymore, anyone with real power has largely given up on humanizing them. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find all this depressing, it’s been almost crippling, but I know who my people are, their character, and values, and I’ll always fight for them no matter what, I know what the truth is and how America has always been built on the backs of exploited labor/people, the blood of immigrants runs through my veins.

Never forget, we’re all human, we all have hopes and dreams, my enemies aren’t human, they’re structures that pit us against each other, that pick our pockets and say it’s our neighbor that did it. Please remember, I’m human and so are you, structures can be broken and replaced. I could never replace you or me, please see me as human as I see you. by @plenk117

“Lo que veo en ti es cada momento que me hace feliz”

I grew up about an hour away from Morro Bay but never went until earlier this year and it’s truly such a beautiful place. I really love all of these photos and couldn’t really decide on which ones to post and which ones not to, so I kinda just decided to put them all up even the otters cause why not.

To celebrate 10 years of shooting photos here are some of my favorite shots I’ve taken over the years!

I’ve been shooting for about a decade at this point but I didn’t really lean into it until around three years ago, from the moment I picked up an old mirrorless camera on clearance back in 2016 to the hundreds of rolls of film I’ve shot through various cameras starting with a Minolta X-700 in 2018 to my trusty Nikon FM3A (except for the electronics that got fried two years ago but still works manually!) But, I’ve really grown to love this hobby and I’ll continue to shoot photos for as long as I can!

I was originally going to title and write out what these photos mean to me but then I looked up the character limit for captions and scrapped that idea, but art is interpretive so I don’t really believe in defining my stuff. I believe in every moment being unique because everyone feels/sees things in a different way, if you’d like to share any of your perspective feel free to do so! Or if you’d like to know my thoughts behind something feel free to ask as well! And if you read this I hope the best thing that you want to happen in your life, happens.

I Like the Night.

Way back in the day The Strokes just dropped Angles after a huge hiatus which they didn’t really tour for but in that same year Julian Casablancas was teasing a track called I Like the Night which had me super hyped because I was desperate for any new music from these dudes.

Anyways after teasing this track for a random cologne collab, it never drops it stays existing as just a 30 second teaser and I’m heavily disappointed, but apparently while recording this fraudulent track at this moment is when he meets his future bandmates for a different project that later becomes @thevoidz and from that we get the track Human Sadness, which in my opinion is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written and recorded. So I guess I Like the Night just because it ended up leading to that masterpiece.

“Don’t you find it all romantic, the way things used to be?”

The Bay Area has always been a special place for me ever since I was young, from middle school to high school I would spend most summers in Berkeley enrolling in courses through a program called CHA & ATDP, one of which no longer exists unfortunately. I have a ton of fond memories from those summers, from meeting people I most likely never would have, to the first time I had a crush that reciprocated the same feeling, and just feeling like my world became infinitely larger than just my small town called Avenal that I was used to.

Every time I go back to the Bay Area I get hit with nostalgic waves, especially because my brain often feels like it’s full of holes and I struggle to remember many things from my youth. One vivid memory I have is an area my professor took my class to, it was a plaza surrounded by high rise buildings with a gazebo in the center. I remember it was an afternoon with clear skies so the sun was hitting the red brick of the plaza giving the area a soft warm red glow. I felt so comfortable and at peace, and it was the first and only time I went there. Now every time I visit the Bay I spend some time trying to find this place that I hold dear in my head, because it has to be real and I refuse to have only experienced it once.
