POSTS STORIES REELS

✨🌷 Hi, welcome to Plots & Scraps.
Just a quick confession: I’m a slow reader, especially now that I’m coming out of a reading slump. #welistenandwedontjudge 😅
✨You’ll usually find me reading historical fiction, memoirs, literary fiction, mysteries, classics, and the occasional whimsical fantasy. I love turning the stories I read into scrapbook spreads and reading journal pages.
✨My goal is to read and journal as much as possible this year, but with absolutely no pressure. I just want to Namjoon my way through life with books. My ultimate goal, however, is to finish reading the most important book of all—my Bible. I’m currently 78% through it, and completing it is my priority. 😊
If you love books, journaling, and thoughtful reflections, come join me in this cozy little corner of Bookstagram. 📚✂️💜✨

The Guest List - Lucy Foley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨ This was a fun read. Told through multiple alternating POVs across both past and present timelines, you can’t help but get wrapped up in the story and connect with each character, though some you may end up not liking from the start. The isolated island setting creates an eerie atmosphere that steadily builds as the novel unfolds, further heightening the suspense. Although it’s a slow-burn thriller, I was pleasantly surprised more than once by its plot twists.

Foley also weaves themes of deception, toxic masculinity, isolation, family trauma, and revenge without allowing these to overpower the overall narrative.

✨ If you enjoy slow-burn thrillers, I’d definitely add this one to your tbr. Have you read The Guest List, or is it on your tbr? Let me know below.

✨Thank you for being here!! In honor of 500+ bookish friends, I thought it was time for a non-bookish introduction.
✨ You know the bookish side of me… but there’s a little more to the plot ☺️
✨So here’s a peek at the person behind Plots & Scraps, the things I love, the places that make me stop and stare, the moments I want to capture, and apparently the desserts I refuse to pass up on 😅
✨Again, thank you for 500!! 💜 It truly has been fun getting to know so many of you, so now it’s your turn…
Which one do we have in common?

The Night Bird ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨ Apparently, my reading slump left quite a few good books forgotten, and The Night Bird was one of them. Well, I just discovered that I actually purchased this book back in January 2017! Before it was even released! Almost ten years later. I finally gave it the attention it deserved, and I’m glad I did!

✨ The first book in a three book series, The Night Bird is a psychological thriller following Detective Frost Easton as he investigates a series of mysterious deaths. What initially appears to be a string of suicides, soon reveals that something far more sinister is at work.

✨ One of the things I found most fascinating was the idea of using memories and phobias as weapons and how music itself can play a part. I’ve always been extremely interested in how the human mind works, so I particularly enjoyed how the story explored our fears and the reliability of our memories. It really makes you wonder just how much we can trust our own minds.

✨ Of the characters introduced, I found myself drawn to Detective Easton and his backstory the most, which makes me want to read the rest of the series. I’ll admit, the story did drag a little at times, but just when I felt it was losing momentum, things picked up again. I also appreciated that the plot twists were believable. They didn’t feel like they came out of nowhere. In fact, once everything was revealed, I found myself thinking back to all the little hints that had been there all along. I just hadn’t put them together.

✨ Overall, this was an intriguing psychological thriller that kept me questioning what was really happening. Despite a few slower moments, I enjoyed the mystery and would definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoy this particular genre.

⚠️How reliable is our memory, really?
The irony of forgetting about a book that explores the reliability of our memories isn’t lost on me! 😅

Have you read The Night Bird or any other books by Brian Freeman?

✨Bookish logic: If the books are on sale, I’m technically saving money, right? And who dared say I have enough books?! 📚

✨A little book mail from @bookoutlet. Just five more books for my never ending tbr, bc apparently the hundreds already waiting on my shelves weren’t enough. ☺️

✨A little historical fiction, some literary fiction, and a few titles I’ve had my eye on for a while. And because I clearly have no self control around pretty books, I also picked up the Target exclusive edition of The Cuffing Game. Those sprayed edges got me, super cute 💕

✨And I may or may not have another package on the way… but who’s keeping track?! 🤭

✨Have you read any of these? Which one would you pick up first?

Say You’ll Remember Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨ What can I say about this story? I LOVED this book. This book spoke to me.

✨I recently read in a post that books find you when you need them the most, and I think that’s exactly what happened to me with this one.

✨It’s a dual POV, grumpy/sunshine, long distance romance that touches on themes of found family, childhood trauma, and caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s, including the effects it has on the entire family.

✨And that last part, that’s what really hit home for me. Reading this while caring for my own mom with Alzheimer’s made me feel that my family’s experiences were seen and validated. Abby Jimenez navigates the love, the fear, the pain, and the reality of what it means to be a caregiver. I especially loved the tender moments woven in between the difficult realities of the situation.

✨And then, of course, there’s the romance! The attraction between Sam and Xavier, the longing, the willingness to do whatever it takes just to steal a few more moments together. I soaked it all up. Learning just how caring and loving Xavier really is beneath that hard shell of his, and seeing how Sam never shied away from him, melting that intimidating exterior from the get go, is what really made me fall in love with their story.

✨Would I recommend this book you ask? 1000%!

✨Just be aware of some potentially triggering topics. But your biggest warning? Beware of falling for Xavier yourself!! Because Xavier has officially made it to the top of my Book Boyfriend list. 💕

✨ I just love a little bookstore “browsing” 😉 followed by some reading time on a cozy, rainy day.

✨ I always tell myself I’m just going to look, but somehow I end up with a whole stack of books. Thank God for bargain used bookstores! @juliascafeandbooks

✨ Found some interesting titles, resisted bringing home more books, and stuck with the great finds I already had. Then I settled in for some reading time with A Gentleman in Moscow and The Night Bird on my Kindle.

✨Honestly, a pretty lovely way to spend an afternoon.

How many of you have actually succeeded in ONLY browsing?!

Though it rained, the people came!!! And came they did! 📚 Charlotte is such a bookish city!!

A little peek into my day at CLT Bookpalooza! ✨

✨I loved browsing the different booths and checking out all the bookish merch. But the highlights of my day were listening to the author panel and chatting with award-winning author @carolbaldwin121

✨Her book, Half-Truths, is a YA historical fiction novel set in the 1950s that explores how racial tensions and family secrets shape life in the American South. This is definitely my kind of story, and I can’t wait to get to it!

It’s always such a pleasure to hear directly from authors and spend an afternoon surrounded by books and fellow book lovers! Looking forward to more bookish adventures.

Finally picking Solito by Javier Zamora back up.

✨This book has been sitting on my shelf for a very long time. I remember buying a few books during my reading slump. Some I started but never finished, while others I never even opened. Solito was one of the books I barely started but didn’t finish.

✨I’m glad I’m finally out of that slump. And although I haven’t been able to read as many books as I’d hoped, finding my way back to reading has definitely been a much needed outlet for me. 💜

✨With Hispanic Heritage Month coming to an end, it felt like the perfect time to return to this memoir. I still have several books from my Latinx hopefuls and fall tbr to get to, but I’ll make my way through them eventually. ☺️ by @plotsnscraps

Reading update📚

✨I’m loving this read so far! 🥹 The chemistry between Samantha and Xavier is so good, and the grumpy x sunshine trope is definitely one of my faves! I’m also really enjoying getting to know Xavier beyond his grumpy exterior. His childhood adds another emotional layer to his character, and I’m so curious to see how his story unfolds.

✨ I’m also relating so much to Samantha’s experience with her mom. At times, it’s been a bit hard to read because it almost feels like I’m reading something I’ve written myself about my own experience with caregiving.
