Oh Bartholomew. My precious Bartholomew. I loved this book. I truly and whole heartedly loved this book. The magic system was easy to understand and sucked me in immediately. The world is immersive and fascinating.

I loved the way this book was broken up as well. It made it fast and easy to read.

SYBIL IS A BADASS!!!! She’s one of those rare FMC’s who aren’t fragile. She’s a stone worker, she’s BUILT, and wears armor. A strong ass woman.

And Rory… 🖤 who doesn’t love a beautiful broody knight in eyeliner?

This may be a little closer to a 3.5 star but I rounded up bc it was a good spooky season vibe.

For starting out as a gothic village, spooky vibes story - this actually had the sweetest ending ever???
It was nice reading about an FMC who wasn’t 19 and barely even legal. Iris has been married before, had an entire life before moving to Scotland to inherit her great aunts cabin.
Immediately, the spooky vibes are set in. Salt on the windows, horseshoes over doors, Rowan trees, bones being left around. A constant feeling of someone looking over your shoulder.
Alasdair was a lil creepy and vague in the beginning but idec | knew he was gonna be good. AND HE WAS. He was obsessive, possessive, and down so unbelievably hard for Iris it had ME blushing.

Despite the cover, this was a silly fun time. Lynx’s inner monologue had me giggling. We love a forced proximity.

Alsoooooo, Tony reminded me of Base from EOD trilogy. Ifykyk

Bonus points for this book getting me out of my ~2 month reading slump✨

In the beginning, Josie was a tad annoying but I had to keep telling myself she’s in a cult and literally knows nothing. She got so much better in the second half when she learned how to stand up for herself.
And Nico, my little non-feeling, neat freak, mafia boss husband

A My man is carrying around her inhaler in his pocket at all times just in case. She dropped a hair tie when they were broken up? Yean, he put that in his pocket too to have SOMETHING OF HER WITH HIM.

I’m not hard to entertain. Every time he called her baby I wanted to jump out the window from blushing. 10/10 @_bazookah
