We are excited to announce that @pmckartstuff will be exhibiting a structure at Show Garden as part of @le_jardin_project created in ode to the fascinating structural concept of the Celtic Trinity Knot Symbol. She has deconstructed the classic motif into an abstract, reimagined steel form to reference her fragmented, diasporic generational heritage, emphasising the continual loss of Celtic cultures and plant traditions.

Pagan McKenzie is a Scottish interdisciplinary, abstract, conceptual sculptor and installation artist from Glasgow, Scotland. She is predominantly interested in the mediums of found/discarded materials, natural material, metal, wood, light and moving image. Her work explores a range of themes shaped by her sustained engagement with the abstract reimagining and physicalizing of conceptual ideas. Being of both Scottish and Irish descent, Pagan is currently interested in reconnecting with her diasporic Celtic heritage through her art, addressing this in a modern context and creating works in response. She longs to connect with the ancient symbols, traditions, folklore and plant uses of these forgotten cultures and is currently incorporating/reimagining aspects of these practises into her own works. Her practise responds to the fragmentation and displacement of Celtic culture and identity in the UK today, referencing sectarianism, the resurge of the Gaelic language, as well as referencing Scottish/Irish rave culture. She addresses these discourses in her work, through conceptual and borderline-surrealist aestheticism.

Pagan McKenzie is a Scottish interdisciplinary, abstract, conceptual sculptor and installation artist from Glasgow, Scotland. She is predominantly interested in the mediums of found/discarded materials, natural material, metal, wood, light and moving image. Her work explores a range of themes shaped by her sustained engagement with the abstract reimagining and physicalizing of conceptual ideas. Being of both Scottish and Irish descent, Pagan is currently interested in reconnecting with her diasporic Celtic heritage through her art, addressing this in a modern context and creating works in response. She longs to connect with the ancient symbols, traditions, folklore and plant uses of these forgotten cultures and is currently incorporating/reimagining aspects of these practises into her own works. Her practise responds to the fragmentation and displacement of Celtic culture and identity in the UK today, referencing the violent and still extremely prevalent undercurrent of sectarianism which she experienced growing up in Glasgow. Her works currently reference the resurge of the Gaelic language, as well as referencing Scottish/Irish rave culture. Pagan McKenzie, co-founder of Brutal Collective, is a Scottish interdisciplinary, abstract, conceptual sculptor and immersive installation artist from Glasgow, Scotland. She is predominantly interested in the mediums of found/discarded materials, natural material, metal, wood, light and moving image. Her work explores a range of themes shaped by her sustained engagement with the abstract reimagining and physicalizing of conceptual ideas. Being of both Scottish and Irish descent, Pagan is currently interested in reconnecting with her diasporic Celtic heritage through her art, addressing this in a modern context and creating works in response. Her practise is also responding to the fragmentation and displacement of Celtic culture and identity in the UK today. Through her art she is also exploring the prevalent undercurrent of sectarianism which she experienced growing up in Glasgow. She addresses these discourses in her work, through conceptual and borderline-surrealist aestheticism.

CUT THE STEM presents Pagan Mckenzie at UNWIRED

This work is my ode to the fascinating structural concept of the Celtic Trinity Knot Symbol. I have deconstructed the classic motif into an abstract, reimagined form with modern industrial material. I created this work to connect to my Celtic heritage, to highlight/reflect on the continual loss of Celtic culture and tradition and bridge the disconnect between now and then. The interlaced loops of the metal, replicate the invisible ties to our past which we are disconnected from, creating fragmentation of cultures and people across generations.
