Thank you, my beautiful boys ❤️. I don’t think anyone can imagine the joy, companionship, love, and magic that you have brought to me during your lives.

Florian went to sleep as usual on Sunday, the night before I got back from Switzerland. Granny kissed his head and he just didn’t wake back up in the morning. His heart must’ve stopped in his sleep. He had no illness, and no suffering. His eyes were closed: he looked so peaceful. It was so typically Florian just to slip away, causing me absolutely no worries or fuss. My Golden Boy 💛

I got home, took Hector to the vet and found out that lhis drinking a lot the last 6 weeks and sudden weight loss (5kg in 10 days) was almost certainly because of lymphoma. It doesn’t cause pain, but his body was rapidly shutting down. He had a lovely, quiet last day in the sunshine with me yesterday, and I had him put to sleep at home. He was sedated first, made happy little collie noises in his dreams, and then they stopped his heart as I held his paw. My Naughty Rascal 💙

There will be time to grieve, but right now I feel the most enormous gratitude for their lives and for their perfect ending. They did everything together: walking, sniffing, barking, playing, having their dinner, chasing cats, snoozing, peeing at the same spot, scuttling when they saw the bucket of doom - and now they have gone together. Inseparable to the end.

This post is a genuine celebration and a tribute to two furry little souls who have touched my heart and those of many others.

It was the greatest, most wonderful blessing to have been your Collie Daddy. Thank you, my darling Hectorli and Floripoops 🙏🏼 taken in Suffolk by @pmeforever

Florian would’ve been 11 today. It’s two months since I lost him and I can barely write this. My golden boy. He was my everything, and I don’t think my heart will ever truly mend.

When I see people with dogs all I can think now is how that little furry ray of sunshine will, some day, break you in two.

My last video of him at the end: a rare walk we had together on our own, as Hector was sleeping off a sedation. He loved EVERY second of just strolling along having his daddy all to himself. It was the day before I, unknowingly, said goodbye to him for the last time.

And my last ever photo later that afternoon: his coming for a cuddle, how he always did, 5 or 10 times a day. Those deep, soulful eyes that just melted me in an instant.

Rest in peace, my beautiful, irreplaceable Florian 🧡🧡🧡 taken in Suffolk by @pmeforever

Hector would’ve turned 11 today 💙

My Blue Boy.. when he was younger, non dog people would ask ”oh is he old?” - despite the fact he was busy running up and down like a loony at 300 km/h and clearly still a puppy 😜

His blue merle coat made him a *stunner*.. a super model. On his penultimate visit to the vet the receptionist, who hadn’t seen him before, gasped and said "oh Hector, you’re beautiful” 😍

That colouring meant he never seemed to age and turned heads to the last: the last pic is him at 10.5 years old. Combined with his naughty, mischievous, fiercely intelligent character, my little blue wolfling 🐺 really stood out.

Here are a few pix which really “capture” him. Happy Birthday, my Hectorli 💙💙💙 taken in Suffolk by @pmeforever

Tbilisi is beautiful 🇬🇪 - look for yourself 😍 It’s old, it’s crumbling, it’s vibrant, it’s energetic, it’s stunning, and it’s so so atmospheric.

Coming here from Yerevan 🇦🇲 is fascinating: two caucus countries right next to each other. In some ways Georgia feels far more European, and Armenia more modern Middle Eastern.

You see EU flags here 🇪🇺, Ukraine flags 🇺🇦 and there’s more grime, graffiti and tonnes of character. The energy and chaos is a bit like flying from Switzerland to Marakesch: it assails you. Yerevan is calm, spotless, clean and ordered. Tiblisi is none of those things 🤣

I’ve loved both. Truly. Couldn’t choose a favourite. taken in Tbilisi, Georgia by @pmeforever

This is the oldest shoe in the world 😲 - and I went into the History of Armenia 🇦🇲 museum *just* to see it. There’s a modern exact copy you can touch and feel 👞, which is amazing.

It was discovered in 2008 and has been carbon dated to 5500 years old. That’s 900 years OLDER than the Great Pyramid of Giza. It was preserved in a cool, dry, Armenian cave under a pile of sheep poo 🐑💩

It is a size 37EU / 6UK / 7US and may have been a man or a woman’s. No one knows what they did with the other one. taken in History Museum of Armenia by @pmeforever

And somehow I had the energy for a part two 😛 - climbing up this massive Cascade thing for views all over the capital city of Armenia 🇦🇲

Right at the top is the Mounument to 50 years of the 1917 October Revolution ⭐️ - and Mother Armenia sitting on a plinth where a giant Stalin used to stand. A few months ago I was in the Baltics: the sheer size and breadth of the former Soviet Empire is staggering. These places have nothing, but nothing, in common other than being victims of Russian imperial aggression.

Yerevan is bustling, safe, spotless, vibrant. It really does feel like a true bridge between a European Balkan and Middle Eastern city. And it’s good value. €6 on the International Aperol Index 🧡 and €7 for an excellent pizza 🇮🇹 in one of the best rated places in the city. Oh and Armenian brandy 🥃 really IS as good as they say. It’s a fab city, truly. taken in Yerevan, Armenia by @pmeforever

Dog, I hit the ground running and saw WAY to much yesterday to take in: a monastery ⛪️where St Gregory the Illuminator was stuck in a dungeon ⛓️ for 13 years 1700 years ago, Mount Ararat where Noah‘s Ark 🐘 came to its rest, a huge great reservoir, wine collecting 🍇, some fabulous crap old Ladas 🚙, a perfect 2000 year old UNESCO Greek temple to Helios 🏛️, traditional bread making 🍞, the “Symphony of Stones“ Valley, and an utterly stunning 1000 year old Armenian monastery and church built into the rock. Again UNESCO. Proper old shit: the real stuff 😍 taken in Yerevan, Armenia by @pmeforever

I’ll do a full post later.. but SOUND ON for this right now. Inside the 1000 year old UNESCO monastery of Geghard in Armenia 🇦🇲. They built this church by tunnelling *down* through the basalt rock. taken in Geghard Monastery Գեղարդի տաճար by @pmeforever

In a leafy, quiet, and very wealthy suburb of western Berlin, there’s an S-Bahn station: Grunewald.

Platform 17 of that station - once used for goods transports - was the place where 10,000 of the 50,000 Jews of Berlin were deported to the East during the holocaust.

Theresienstadt, Riga, Auschwitz: each transport, with the destination and exact number of victims, is shown by the rails. It’s a beautiful, silent, haunting place: especially when you look at the rails disappearing into the distance.

Quarter of a century ago! “Too Much Money: Thyssen v Thyssen. Trial of the Century“ ⚖️

Pic of a far younger lawyer me and the rest of our legal team 👨🏼‍💼 in Bermuda 🇧🇲, in a case that took up 4 whole years of my life. It involved 5 leading London KCs, 4 Swiss professors of law, and a whole team of others, including our local Bermuda colleagues.

It took me from London to Bermuda full-time for 2 years, and also to live in Zurich 🇨🇭and Monaco 🇲🇨 for another 3 months each. I was also flying forwards and backwards ✈️ to Lugano 🇨🇭 on a stupidly frequent basis interviewing a couple of key witnesses 📄. I also became (truly niche, this, for a young London corporate litigator) a veritable expert on Swiss family and inheritance law 🤗. Fave quote: Professor Dr Dr Vischer 🎓 saying to me in Basel, “Peter, with this question, we are now orbiting at the highest levels of Swiss civil law“ 🚀😝

Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza - then on his 5th wife and pictured 📸 on the front of Commercial Lawyer - was suing his eldest son, our client, for almost $3 billion. We defended 🥊 him.

I got, multiple times, to meet our client’s sister Francesca and brother in law Karl von Habsburg, now the would-be Emperor and Empress 👑 of Austria 🇦🇹; the case eventually settled out of court after NINE months of full-time negotiations; the family spent $100m 💵 on legal fees; an actual book* 📚 has been written about it (!); and a truly bizarre time was had by all.

Feels like a different lifetime and a different world….!

Come join me on a fun hike I did up to TEUFELSBERG 😈 last week.. built on millions of tonnes of Berlin WW2 rubble, it is an abandoned NATO listening station 📡 and is now full of incredible street art 🎨. You can just run and climb all over the place exploring. Soooo cool 🤩 taken in Teufelsberg Berlin by @pmeforever
