Let’s chop and prop this neon pothos!

Sanitize your snippers with alcohol.

Grab your pothos vine, by each leaf you’ll see a brown bump those are called nodes. This is where the new roots and growth will be coming out from.

Grab your snippers and you’re going to snip right before and after the node leaving about 1/2-3/4 of the vine on each side of the node.

There are many ways in which you can prop the cuttings, and my favorite is water prop.

You don’t have to prep a foam piece like I do, but I feel that it helps the cuttings not sink into the water.

Grab a container of your choice and some water into it. I love to add prop drops to boost root growth, but it’s not necessary.

Put your cutting into the container of water, place it under a grow light and watch the roots grow. Don’t forget to be patient.

Stay tuned!! I’ll have update videos on the roots and potting up videos on this.

Plant mail → new home! Alocasia Pink Nobilis ✔️

My simple process for moving a plant from a plug:

1. Remove the plug — Gently loosen the plant and remove the plug. You will unfortunately lose some roots but that’s okay.
2. Clean the roots — Rinse away any loose debris.
3. Inspect the roots — Check for healthy roots and trim away anything dead or mushy.
4. Choose growing method — I’m going with semi-hydro like always. So grab your DIY self-watering pot.
5. Add medium — Position the plant and gently fill around the roots, keeping the crown at the proper level.
6. Water thoroughly — Give it a good drink from top at first, then just make sure the water reservoir is always full.
7. Let it acclimate — Give your new plant stable conditions while it adjusts to its new home. I give it high humidity and slowly acclimate it to ambient.

Another one officially added to the collection! 🪴🌱

A few of you have asked what substrate I use for my tissue culture plants, so I made a quick video showing my mix! 🌱

I use a simple 50/50 mix of perlite and Fluval Stratum.

For every scoop of perlite a scoop of Fluval Stratum.

That’s it! Equal parts of each, and you’re ready to pot up your tissue cultures.

Hope this helps some fellow plant collectors! What substrate do you use for your TCs?

Let’s deflask this Alocasia Dragon Scale Mint tissue culture.🌱🧪

Carefully remove the plantlet from the container. Take your time young tissue culture plants are extremely delicate.

Take a moment to check the roots and remove any damaged, mushy, or dead tissue.

Rinse the roots under clean, room-temperature water to remove any remaining agar gel.

Be thorough! Any leftover agar trapped around the roots can hold moisture and potentially encourage mold or bacterial growth.

Time to pot it up. I’m using my diy mini self watering pot. For the growing medium I’m using my go to pumice and fluval stratum 50-50 mix.

Water the medium thoroughly first time around from the top, afterwards only fill the reservoir when needed.

Keep humidity high. I do so by covering the whole plant with two larger cups, and every week I poke a hole to release humid levels until acclimated to desired humidity.

Now comes the hardest part, Stay patient it will grow.
