PM Tip for Businesses: Scope & Boundaries

One of the biggest mistakes I see in projects is jumping into work before the scope is clear. Scope is basically your project’s boundaries, it’s what’s included, and just as importantly, what’s not included. When everyone knows the limits, decisions are easier, and execution is smoother.

Before you start a project, make sure:
• The scope is written down and agreed on by everyone involved.
• Everyone understands what’s in scope and what’s out of scope.
• Stakeholders are aligned on priorities, what’s a must-have vs a nice-to-have.
• You have a process to handle change requests without derailing progress.

Taking the time upfront to define scope isn’t busy work, it’s protecting your team, your stakeholders, and the project itself. Clear boundaries make projects less stressful and more likely to succeed.
