Uprooted: An Investigation into Russia's abduction of Ukrainian Children by Kyiv Independent The Ukrainian government has identified over 19,500 Ukrainian children who have been forcibly deported to Russia.The Kyiv Independent's War Crimes Investigation Unit established the names of Russian-controlled officials who took part in the abduction and followed the paths of families who risked their lives to bring their children back.The Kyiv Independent found 31 children taken to Russia in May 2022 from occupied parts of Ukraine. The children have not been returned to Ukraine. Part of the group was later put up for adoption in Russia.Among them was Pylyp Holovnya, illegally adopted by Russia's Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Lvova-Belova for her part in the abduction of Ukrainian children.The documentary is released with the support of Microsoft and the Kyiv Independent community.The Kyiv Independent is almost entirely funded by our readers. We need to all be doing everything we can to help preserve the future of Ukraine for when rebuilding is possible. " ...team at Columbia University are almost ready to release a state-of-the-art on-line training program for teachers in Ukraine and Warsaw, Poland to help them understand how to manage classrooms filled with psychologically traumatized refugee and displaced kids.And we’ve just delivered the first batch of computer tablets to displaced children who have been relocated to the Carpathian Mountains south of Lviv. When some education funds were transferred to military needs in Ukraine, many children were unable to get needed textbooks. These tablets are preloaded with appropriate curricular material so they can lean remotely.Then, with the encouragement and support of advisory board member, actor Michael Keaton, we’ve already delivered hundreds of winter boots to orphaned and displaced children who are really not prepared for a potential brutal winter. Much more is still needed. Why? NPR Fresh Air program, an interview with a reporter from The Guardian 11/29/22: "A journalist's plea to the West: 'Pay attention to Ukraine and its fate'Journalist Luke Harding saw firsthand the nature of Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime, while serving as Moscow Bureau Chief for The Guardian from 2007 until 2011. The Kremlin didn't like what he was writing, Harding says, and, consequently, his apartment was broken into, he was spied on, harassed and, finally, expelled from Russia.'The country was lurching towards darkness,' Harding says. 'It was already authoritarian when I got there, but it was going towards totalitarianism.'Harding says it was clear that Putin had never really accepted the independence of post-Soviet republics." It goes like this: a Ukrainian claims that the entire Russian society is to blame for the invasion of their homeland, while the other person says the entire nation cannot be responsible for the crimes of the totalitarian regime. The two fail to understand each other’s positions and the discussion is shut down.Whenever Ukrainians say that all Russians are responsible for the invasion and the ongoing genocide against Ukraine, we often get brushed off for being “too emotional” or “too radical.” I have seen too many comments on Twitter and Instagram going like this: “You are wrong and hateful, but I understand that you’re dealing with a lot of emotion right now.”Let me just say this: yes, Ukrainians are emotional. We can’t help getting emotional thinking about the atrocities done to our friends, family, and neighbors.
