💎 Beyond the Art: The Spectacular Storytelling Jewelry of Keri Ataumbi

What if a piece of jewelry could carry the spirit of your ancestors, spark dialogue about environmental justice, and reclaim stories long silenced? That’s the power of Keri Ataumbi, a trailblazing Kiowa artist whose work transcends adornment to become a profound expression of Indigenous identity, creativity, and truth.

Raised on the Wind River Reservation and deeply influenced by her mother, the first Native woman to own a trading post—Keri’s journey is one of reclamation and reinvention. Her stunning pieces, crafted from gold, shell, quill, and bone, are not just beautiful—they are vessels of cultural memory and revolutionary elegance. They challenge outdated narratives, resist commodification, and reimagine Native art as luxury, as story, as power.

In this inspiring episode of Beyond the Art, Keri shares how her work redefines what fine art and fashion can be when rooted in cultural authenticity. She opens up about the deeper meaning behind her materials, her ongoing dialogue with Southern Plains traditions, and how her creations invite meaningful conversations around value, divestment, and environmental responsibility.

Keri’s work reminds us that Indigenous jewelry isn’t a trend or a style—it’s a living legacy. It’s storytelling through metal and memory, a conversation between past and present, and a vision of the future that is grounded in strength, artistry, and truth.

🎙️ Beyond the Art: Neal Ambrose-Smith – Reimagining Native Art, One Story at a Time

What does it mean to be a Native artist in today’s world—one that demands authenticity while challenging the very systems that have long tried to define Indigenous identity? In this deeply moving and thought-provoking episode, Neal Ambrose-Smith, acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and educator, invites us into his world where art, ancestry, and advocacy converge in powerful and unexpected ways.

A descendant of the Salish and Métis nations, Neal shares how his diverse lineage shapes his voice and vision—infusing his work with the complexity of identity, the legacy of resistance, and the fluidity of expression. Whether through printmaking, photography, sculpture, or digital media, his art becomes a vibrant act of cultural storytelling, alive with humor, truth, and quiet rebellion.

With host @cray.bflynn , Neal unpacks the nuanced journey of navigating the mainstream art world as a Native artist, where cultural misrepresentation and institutional exclusion are still very real barriers. Yet, instead of retreating, Neal redefines the space—asserting that Native creativity doesn’t conform to expectations, it transcends them.

One of the most powerful takeaways? Neal’s deep commitment to teaching. He shares how the classroom is not just a place of learning but a creative sanctuary—a source of inspiration, renewal, and connection. Through his students, Neal finds constant reminders of why art matters: it challenges, it heals, and it passes the story forward.

🔥 This is more than an interview—it’s a masterclass in resilience, creativity, and cultural legacy. Neal Ambrose-Smith doesn’t just create art—he lives it, breathes it, and invites us all to feel its weight and wonder.
