Two years ago, I was commissioned to write a poem for the Oliver Station Groundbreaking Ceremony. Today I was at the opening with my family, standing in front of my poem, “I See You” in the lobby of Oliver Station.

Thank you so much🙏🏾 @virtuahealth

Oliver Station is named after Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver (1952-2023) and Reverend Thomas Clement Oliver (1818-1900), a conductor on the Underground Railroad. by @poet.srj

“From Camden to Ventnor to Atlantic City, Shawn R. Jones offers us the uninhibited specificity of name and memory, summoning poetry’s potential: ‘Every dipthong, and syllable aflame. / Each vowel broken.’ Out of the searing wreckage emerges a deeply personal, elegaic version of America. Date of Birth is a reminder of origins, as we so of often conveniently forget them, but Jones insists we pay attention through a ‘rebirthing’ of danger, intimacy, delusion, and delight.”

When women write together and trust each other to share, the room becomes a sacred space. ✨
