Couldn't leave Cali without a quick beach trip⛱️

Growing up, me and my boys lived at the beach...as I got older, whenever I wanted to 'ground' myself, I hit a beach. From LA to San Diego, all it very took was some sand, water and waves to make me feel at peace...I would write, I would read, or I would just look out upon the ocean blue...and dream or imagine!

Aside from family and close friends, when I left Cali, I knew the only thing I would TRULY miss was the ocean waves caressing the shore...

So, whenever I visit now, it doesn't feel complete without my feet meeting the sand...the sun on my skin...or the waves singing to the sand...

...and I will always love it's song!! 🎶🎼🎶

I'm Black...
Like coffee with no sugar or cream
Like what you fade to
At the end of a movie scene
Like a bedroom
With the shades drawn and the lights off
I'm Black
Like the sand on exotic beaches
In my body construction
In my facial features
In the curve of my lips
The width of my nose
The kink of my hair
In the slope of my brow
The timbre of my voice
And the soul in my stroll
I'm Black
Like '-eyed' peas
Like Gumbo
Like Salmon Croquettes
Like the seasoning
In dishes we havent cooked yet
I'm Black
Like the fabric that no dye can stain
Like midnight rain
Like R&B
Calypso
Jazz
And Soul
In my bloodlines
Run Native American
Anglo
And Creole
And I'm STILL Black
Like raised fists on afro picks
Like cornrows
Plats
Dreadlocks
And Twists
I'm Black
Like My Life Matters
If I get fatter
I'll be a little bit blacker
But if I get more slender
I'll be just as Black as I am now
I'm Black
Like spades, dominoes, bid whist and tunk
Like Dr. J, Kobe and Lebron's dunks
Like James Brown
Bootsy Collins
And George Clinton's funk
Like Chuck D's half of Public Enemy
I'm Black...
I've never wanted to be anything else
And I don't hate you
If you ain't Black like me
I just love my Black ass self
