What I plant will outlive me, that’s the point.

One thing students learned this year is that every voice matters and every story deserves space to be heard.

Our poetry unit challenged students to do more than write. It challenged them to reflect, create, revise, and find meaning in their own experiences.

Poetry gave them a way to turn thoughts into art, obstacles into opportunities, and feelings into something powerful enough to share with others.

Proud of these young poets for finding the courage to put their words on the page. ✍🏾🖤

I didn’t check the numbers,

book still selling it wasn’t bout money for me,
My son missed honor roll by 4 points he laughing,
ain’t shit funny to me😩

The sacrifices all been documented,
Every late night wearing yesterday’s stress like it was LUXURY,
I wrote “No Straight Lines” ‘cause growth don’t move PUBLICLY,
Everybody love the skyline but never the rust BENEATH,
I got poems tucked in notebooks like apologies nobody published ya SEE,

Used to think success sounded like arenas and a flooded REACH,
Now it sound like “dad you coming?” from the other room while supper HEAT,
mirrors got exhausted I started talking to windows instead,

Seen too many people die decorative trying to live picture-PERFECT,
Or get they wig pushed back s/o Vontaze BURFICT,

Still got classmates comparing chains like pain come with KARATS,
I’m somewhere teaching kids metaphors while trying not to INHERIT,
The same survival language that turned every soft thing CARELESS,
Poethix… poetry mixed with ethics, every line fingerprints EMBEDDED,

I made art for the people that pace kitchens at 2AM RESTLESS,
For the ones who smile in group pics then drive home playing Tetris,
For the women holding whole households with chipped nail polish and SECRETS,
For the fathers learning love ain’t loud… it’s consistency REPEATED,

And lately I been moving like the pressure got sentimental,
Cause even when the book sell, healing still expensive,
Success came wearing shadows with the bright lights rented,
Guess that’s the thing bout straight lineessss, real life never intended it.
