Spoken Word piece honoring my Filipina American experience at @avantpopbooks ‘s Poetry Arcade event in the Las Vegas Art District. Every line in this poem has a personal story… or three 🇵🇭🇺🇸

Proud to honor pinay artists that inspire me: @rubyibarra & @bjanepr

I also love our FilAm DJs @djerock @djbstang & @djpdot

If you’re reading this, you know an award winning and congressionally recognized poet 🏆✨

I had the privilege of reading my poem, inspired by one of the artists work, in the Clark County Public Arts Mother Roots: An Afrodiasporic Vision exhibit to celebrate Black History Month. I felt honored and privileged to share the stage with amazing poets and artists. I will never forget this performance 🙏🏽

Nine months ago, I decided to follow my bliss and return to writing. My brain started to wiggle out of divorce survival mode and I started to reflect on how I could do things to better love and take care of myself. For me, writing was always the answer but I never listened to my gut about it.

I always doubted it would take me anywhere and that it was just some silly hobby. I’m learning the more I lean into my identities as an artist and poet, the more I naturally thrive🌱

Heaven would look like me, my notebook, and a beach. Writing in the mornings and evenings. I feel at peace and most human when I write in nature.

I am an artist and I am proud of how far i’ve come. For majority of my life, I denied myself this identity. I’ve grown to acknowledge and appreciate this part of myself ✨

Calico Calls

I first performed this poem at its inspiration: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. I shared it this past weekend at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills highlighting the great outdoors event.

Through dance, story, and gardening, I was raised to respect, love, and help flourish nature around me as family.

This is that love poem 🌱
