I spent most of my life with a core belief that women weren’t funny.

I know we’re saturated with feminist talking points and ideas on social media, so me saying this isn’t new or interesting. But for me personally, it is a really big deal that the 16 year old girl who told herself that women weren’t funny and shouldn’t even try, grew up to be a writer whose first feature length screenplay is a comedy.

HOE PHASE, in its feature length screenplay and proof of concept formats, has been selected for 8 film festivals so far. I am deeply proud of it, and so proud of the creative team who helped bring it to life. And if you were one of the people who contributed during the crowdfunding process, THANK YOU. This would not have been possible without you 🩷 by @poetickate

Holy shit. So so so proud of Nick Dunn (Director/Editor/Co Writer: @theghostofmarlowe), Ryan Ross (Cinematographer/Colorist: @ryanrossokay), Trent Mckenney (Location Sound: @themagicspider_x), Jeff Rawlins (Locations: @jeffinreality), Brittney Souther (Actor/Producer: @brittneysouther), Chris Souther (Sound Design: @cristoforosouther), Nick Mathews (Actor: @nick.mathews2), and Chiara Souther (our tiny 5 year old actor!) for winning “Best Style” at the Carbon Shortcuts Filmmaking competition tonight for our short film “Face to Face.”

“Best Style” is so fitting because everyone involved was so collaborative and helped the vision come together and I am so proud of the final product.

We got results from @zepstonemedia’s Zepstone Film Awards tonight as well, and I’m extremely happy to announce that “Face to Face” won Best Thriller, Best Actress Under 18, and an honorable mention for Best Horror.

CONGRATULATIONS ALL OF YOU! Thank you for making the film great! by @poetickate

10 month difference 🥲 Pole is one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done for myself

Feeling sentimental looking back on videos today. Pole is hours and hours and hours of hard work that nobody sees. The routine in the second clip is still pretty basic and it’s taken me 10 months to get it to look like that. Feeling emo about my gains today <3

I practiced bailing dozens and dozens of times before I felt safe hanging upside down! (Also I’m a beginner and still need to learn a handstand exit, don’t come for me 😆)

This has been a very hard year for me and this is my attempt to write my way through it.

I have had to reckon with so much shame about my time in church employment and the systems I helped uphold. At one point my therapist told me, as tears streamed down my face, that this is the way we get clean. This is the way we make sure we never value institutions over people again. We have to reckon with the damage and we have to hold ourselves accountable for our role in oppression.

It sucks so much and it hurts like hell. And then you do better, because that’s all you can do.

I’m still in the thick of it in many ways but I wanted to share this poem I wrote a few days ago.

Thanks.

On Monday I’ll attend my 100th pole class.

When I started in November, my goal was to go to 100 classes by May and I f—cking did it. If I think about it for too long I start crying. Never in a million years did I believe this kind of movement was in me or that I was capable of learning something like this. That I could look beautiful and confident and at home in an art form that has felt so foreign and unreachable for most of my life. (Tears are streaming down my face right now even as I type this).

Thank you to all of my coaches and instructors who have been so encouraging and fun to learn from, I’m so grateful 🩷

I’m afraid of saying much more because it’s going to sound cliche but I’m going to say it anyway!

What I’ve learned so far from doing pole is:

-it’s going to look really bad before it looks really good

-a huge part of success is being willing to show up and look stupid and not know what you’re doing over and over and over again

-being a *giant s!ut has gotten me into my body more than anything ive ever tried in my life. there is no other phase of my life where doing pole and sticking to it would have been possible because i wasn’t listening to my body’s desires or showing up for her. (*being a giant s!ut with the right people)

-my body is so capable and so wise. ive built so much trust with my body since last year. when i go to do a move ive done several times, i listen. if something feels off and my body is saying no to a trick, i don’t push and safely get myself down.

-every 10 classes i see marked improvement. if your progress feels stagnant, just go to a few more classes!

Anyways I don’t know what else to say except that I’m so damn proud of myself and excited to see even more improvement over the next 6 months 🩷✨ taken in Utah by @poetickate
