✨ Atabey Taíno Goddess of fresh Water & Fertility ✨ #freebirth

💛Late in my pregnancy I learned some history of Taíno birthing.

.
💛During birth the women would squat down or kneel on their knees....When I heard this I thought of how Atabey is always depicted squatting... This position is known to be the most effective way to give birth seeing that your opening yourself up & allowing space for baby to come down. It definitely speeds the process. Laying on your back constricts the passageway making it more painful & take longer.

💛Immediately after giving birth the Taíno women would clean their babies with ocean water & then go wash up with their babies in the river....We were able to use spring water from a local spring for our water birth along with mineral filtered water.

💛12-15 days after birth they would name their babies & pierce their ears, nose & lip...I gathered that they took their time getting to know their baby & attributed a name that truly fit the infant...Although we had a name picked out prior to birth, we kept our minds open to different variations of the name, After 21 + days we found one that truly fit our son ✨ As far as piercings I read in an article that Tainos used body modification in order to express their faith. The higher the piercing or tattoo on the body signified their closeness to their gods. Women mainly had more piercings & the Men mainly had more Tattoos.

Naps are important in pregnancy💤

Napping is recommended because hormonal changes, physical discomfort, & nighttime bathroom trips often disrupt sleep, making it hard to get the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Studies have linked regular napping to a lower risk of having a baby with a low birth weight

Growing a baby is extremely tiring due to the immense physical & energetic demands, which can be compared to running a marathon. The 1st trimester fatigue is often due to high levels of the hormone progesterone & the rapid development of the fetus & placenta. The second trimester can bring a burst of energy, but tiredness typically returns in the third trimester as the baby grows larger & requires more of the mother’s energy.
