Poem a day #2: The Uk has announced a mobile phone ban in schools for under 16's, though I am a big advocate for free will and autonomy, I do agree here with this movement. The self serving tech companies would happily see our brains become sludge so long as it serves to increase shareholder value. So thought it may sting now, I promise you, youth of today, adults of tomorrow, it is all for the greatness of humankind

what bright burst may grip you now,
That the birds chirp louder than in your recollection?
What vibration may steal away from the myriad alleys of conversation,
When they are long absorbed into commonplace background undulations.
How may your childhood wonder and thirst stymie itself, becoming one with the dim blue glow of a bedroom,
When life in three dimensions is all that you know.
Wrapped in the dogmatic hand of the puppeteers for once something resembling wisdom resides
And only once the digital shackles have become but a distant memory
may you embrace the luminosity of earth, that fastens unto your eyes

Poem Day 1: Kier Starmer is under the cosh, the Epstein files fallout, and his appointment of Peter Mandelson have been once again brought to the foray and the talking heads in parliament jab and joust. But in all of this, do we hear the victims voices echoed? Or do the powerful once again, wield their pain, for their own benefit?

Ivory towers cannot conceal you now,
Not when their foundations have rotten,
Not when the mouldy grizzly and grim undergrowth is aired for the umpteenth time, resistant to the PR machine that toils until all is forgotten,
Bombastic voices gaggle in sacred benches, the wood paneling lends a booming to their refined voices,
Bluster scarcely a mask for ambition,
reverberating here heres echo,
Drowning the voices of victims, And With conviction,
The shadow mocks, jabs and jousts with the pain of the abused as her sword, the incumbent scarcely better, parries with lip service to women and girls,
For his perception vis a vis them,
Dictates his lifeblood going forward,
the gaggle goes on,
Investigation and arrests plastered onto tabloid and broadsheet alike, and for a moment, it hangs there
The fleeting vision that change may be imminent,
but as a dancer may turn on a dime,
Victims may again realize their social currency is spent.
Even now as the sabres of political retribution are sharpened, and friendly bodies are thrown in front one’s own impending doom, if only to spare their flawed blood from view,
Look not to the puppeteers whose abusive strings scarcely an inch above you lay ready to break,
But hark the words of these women
For society must be awake!

Calling all poets! Calling all date-nighter's! Calling all those looking for a Thursday evening fix with a twist!
Finger's of Flame is where you want to come and settle - a typewriter slam poetry game night, with plenty of audience participation. Members of the crowd will hop on stage, and you shall race to write the most interesting, stylistic and impressive poem against one another! The twist, topics come from you the audience! And the winner is to be decided gladiator style. With bountiful wine, and a crowd that cheers, we hope to create an electric atmosphere in which we are all inspired and creating great writings whilst going head to head. Come to participate! Come to watch, bring your friends and lovers, you ain't never been to a night like this :) 8-10pm

Another lovely conclusion the The philosophy, poetry and bookclub series 2 with The Sloane Club
It has been fantastic once again to come together with these amazing woman, from all backgrounds and professions and to read, open up, debate discuss and write in a space that feels safe and ambient. This series we read The Woman in Black, and concluded with our our short horror stories under candlelight taken in The Sloane Club by @poetysis
