João Timóteo’s video installation, currently on display at ROSALUX in Berlin, recreates a ‘house-head-memory’ within a video-game aesthetic. The visitor is literally drawn into a labyrinth, punctuated only by a few everyday objects, domestic fragments and personal relics – all acquiring a kind of material consciousness – which serve here as emotional and mnemonic landmarks in a meandering journey where the familiar begins to breathe. Here, the gaze, life and time unfold, and thought becomes matter.

Beside the video projection stands a delicate wall with missing stones, poised between stability and ruin, permanence and oblivion.

BIO
João Timóteo (lives and works in Lisbon) develops a multidisciplinary artistic practice that combines sculpture, video, installation and performance. Influenced by cinema, literature and theatrical conventions, he explores narrative, fictional and representational structures through a universe that is both idiosyncratic and popular. With a self-referential approach, he works with objects and images in their multiple forms, fostering dialogue with contemporary technological systems
