When @txballettheater dancer @sophiewilliams742 founded the nonprofit ballet company @pointe_works, her goal was to bring dancers from various companies together during their layoffs.

She also wanted to place the creativity of women at the forefront. “I never danced work by a female choreographer for the first eight years of my career,” she says. “I’ve watched so many of my colleagues try to transition from dancer to choreographer and have seen the obstacles that the women faced versus the men. If Pointeworks can be the platform to [give female choreographers] the experience to put their work out there, I wanted to do that for them.”

Now Pointeworks is touring to New York City’s Ailey Citigroup Theater March 21–22 for its second season. Six of the program’s seven pieces are choreographed by women. Four are world premieres. Two have original music by female composers, and all of the costumes are designed by a total of three women.

Season 3 // Unveiling our artists, collaborations, and vision that will define our ambitious new chapter! This season brings together five works by female choreographers, alongside an extraordinary group of collaborators in music and the performing arts.

Today’s rehearsals launch the creation of new work with choreographer Jacquelyn Long and composer Katie Jenkins—a NYC residency rooted in collaboration, originality, and bold artistic voices.

As we step into the studio, we are deeply grateful to our community for making this work possible. Season 3 is officially underway, and we cannot wait to share what unfolds.

Artist Spotlight // Marcos Ramirez

Cuban ballet dancer and lead with Los Angeles Ballet, Marcos brings his passion for dance to Pointeworks.

After a successful debut in June, Ramirez returns for Compositions in the World Premiere of Where No Storms Come by Hélène Simoneau along with his brother Angel Ramirez and three female dancers.

Marcos’ artistry he brings to every step makes his dancing truly captivating. We’re glad to have you on the team Marcos!

A world premiere score. Now, on vinyl. 🎶

Katie Jenkins’ newest score, Dawn to Dusk, available on vinyl and made by hand by Welsh record cutting company @lathetothegrave

Created in collaboration with choreographer @helenesimoneaudanse for Where No Storm Comes, the piece was born from the landscapes of San Diego and Katie’s Welsh heritage—brought to life through an intimate string quartet of two violins, viola, and cello.

On October 18, Dawn to Dusk will be released on vinyl as part of an exclusive collection available for purchase at Compositions in San Diego and online.

A piece of dance history you can hold in your hands.
