From back surgery, to losing his home to the fire, to beating prostate cancer; it has been a crazy year for Pops. But he’s weathered every storm, with style and grace! This next decade is for restoration!

@hmwxrk __ in the
Ghetto Bird Spotlight

This summer at the Drew League, the two divisions were named after Horace Wormley and Frank Robinson. We were placed in Horace’s division. After thinking about it for a second, I realized — oh, there’s a story there.

In the ’13 Drew League Championship, @hmwxrk and @califrank5 were with the Hank’s Blazers. They snatched the title from us on a big-time shot from Frank, right in front of Kobe Bryant!

You’d think that would be my defining memory of Horace — but exactly a year later, we were in Africa together, this time as teammates. Back during the summer of ’14 I was asked to help put a team together for that trip. The first thing they wanted to know was if I knew a point guard. I knew exactly who I wanted to hit up — Horace. I just wasn’t sure if he would already be overseas hoopin’. Turns out he was available.

Funny thing is, Horace and I almost didn’t make the flight to Amsterdam— but that’s a story for another day. I’m just glad we made it, because the memories from that trip, and the bond it built with him, will always be priceless to me🤝🏾

Winning our second championship — and this time being able to do it in Horace’s division, honoring my friend — made it that much sweeter. And if, in the process, it bothered Frank just a little that his division didn’t get the title, well… I’m good with that 😏

Side note: As far as I can remember, Horace and I have only been teammates twice. The first was years back at a T-Mobile tournament at Venice Beach, where we played in the championship game and lost — along with the chance to win free Sidekicks and a year of free service 😤.
