I spent a lot of time not entirely happy about being pregnant when we first found out 😂

It was so many things… Bryson and I still finding our feet again, finances, planned goals, the challenges of raising a tamaiti takiwātanga, our daughter had just started kindy, I had just started back at mahi… the list goes on… and then there was the pregnancy itself, knowing fully what Brysons kids do to me 😂 I knew what to expect and that threw me into a horrible place.

I think for the first half of the pregnancy I spent it both very sick and also just in a very very dark place mentally… once I finally snapped out of it I found myself feeling a lot of gratitude and settled and at peace with the fact that we would be bringing a 3rd child into the world. Which is how his name came about.

I’m also settled on the idea that Maioha will be my last child… but I also find myself grieving too… on one hand I won’t experience HG again or the excruciating pain that is carrying my husbands children or labour or postpartum again 😂 but on the other hand I won’t get to experience all of the more beautiful things, the tears Bryson cries when he sees the little beating peanut in the first ultrasound, the first listen of the baby’s heartbeat, the first flutters, the kicks, trying to figure out which body part you’re touching 😂 finding out genders… or even the relief when you finally push the baby out, hearing the first cries, the first skin to skin, the baby smell, the coos the growth. These are all Maiohas firsts but they will be all lasts for me and my heart is both happy and sad at the same time. It’s crazy that these feelings can coexist.
I’m just rambling on but… wow. What a journey 😭 as a woman who despises being pregnant I didn’t expect to feel sad about choosing to not do it again but here I am, crying about it… Only the rest of our lives to go I suppose our babies 🥰 #motherhood #mum #newborn #postpartumjourney by @pokaikaha
