Mama,

I miss you so so much. I wish you were here.

I turn 30 soon, and I can’t help but reflect on the fact that I only had you for a short period of my 30 year life. I was a kid. My time with you was short.

I remember Bokang and I following you around endlessly the minute you got home from work. You’d get annoyed because we’d even follow you to the bathroom. We would not let you out of our sight, okay? 😂

Sometimes I wonder if, somehow, we knew we didn’t have a lot of time with you.

I wish you were here to tell me what to do, to hold my hand. I wish I could hear your voice, hug you, sit in your lap. I wish we had our own inside jokes, our own bonding time. I wish I had gotten to know you, and you had gotten to know me.

Because I know you would love me. You would be curious about me. You would want to know who I am, what I think, what makes me laugh, what makes me sad.

And I know you would fight for me, love me just as I am, and never let me question whether I was worthy.

Even from the grave, you have continued to sustain me, anchor me and provide for me in inexplicable ways. You have always been there, in the details.

I know you carried so much in your lifetime. And you were just a girl too. Just a girl trying to figure it all out.

Sometimes I think about that version of you. Who you were before you were my mother. What you dreamed about. What made you happy. What you were afraid of. Who you were when no one was looking.

I wish I could have known her too.

And every time I see your pictures, I wonder what it would have been like to sit across from you as a grown woman. To tell you about my life, the things I struggled with, the things I overcame, the things that broke my heart.

But I know your spirit lives in me. I see little pieces of you in myself, and every time I look at your pictures, I’m reminded that you were here. That you were mine and I was yours.

I think you would actually like me a lot as a person. I think you would have been my best friend.

Your little girl has grown. And she is still growing.

I wish you could see the woman I’m becoming. I know you’d be proud.

I miss you. I love you.

The Forbes Women Leading Summit left me with one word: obedience.

Somewhere in that room… I remembered who I am.
Not the version of me that’s been tired, doubting, and just getting by
but the woman who knows she has a voice, a presence, and a seat in rooms like this.

God doesn’t need perfection. He needs obedience.
And I’m learning that if I just show up, consistently and faithfully, He will breathe life into every dream I’ve been carrying.
I refuse to mishandle what I’ve prayed for.

So this is me choosing differently.
No more hiding.
No more shrinking.
No more waiting to feel ready.
Just showing up… and trusting that God will meet me there 🤍
