An international youth led coalition committed to kicking the fossil fuel industry out of every aspect of our society❗✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿✊🏻✊🏽

POSTS STORIES REELS

The lead up the the Conference of Parties; the 58 Subsidiary Briefings are in session and there is a huge conflict of interest present. Global youth climate justice activists are therefore uniting to send an urgent message. States can’t keep willingly ignoring the only solution to avoid climate chaos: an Equitable Fossil Fuel Phase-Out.

An Equitable Fossil Fuel Phase Out means:
An equitable transition must be carried out in a way that ensures the burdens and benefits are re-distributed fairly among different stakeholders, with particular attention to historically marginalized and vulnerable communities.
Exclude Oil & Gas Representatives from UNFCCC Spaces
The corporate capture and lobbying by the fossil fuel industry have prevented the UNFCCC space from taking the actions needed to tackle the climate crisis. As such, a conflict-of-interest policy must be created.
The Global North Must Fund a Global Just Transition
Governments must agree at COP28 to implement new mechanisms to make big polluters pay for loss and damage. The allocation of funds should be transparent and accountable to local communities to ensure the prioritization of vulnerable and marginalized populations, including Indigenous peoples and women.

With a historic turn of events Loss and Damage finance fund has been promised but the parameters are still murky. As global our demand still is “Don’t just say it. Pay it”
The next few months will be critical in how the payment for loss and damage play out. Will it be just? Will vulnerable communities be prioritized? Will we get money from governments or fund ourselves again indebted to banks and cooperations?
Polluters out, but not before they pay!

A public call to all negotiators at the 56 subsidiary briefings at Bonn- put loss and damage on the agenda by @pollutersout

🤔 Everyone now seems to agree that Europe should finally kick its addiction to Russian gas – as should have been clear back when Putin annexed the Crimea region.

🤬 Instead, by 2021, Russian imports have reached 40% of the EU’s total gas consumption, an increase of almost half compared to 2013. All thanks to the gas- and fossil fuel lobbyists, the same ones that are now again re-designing the EU’s energy policy.

✊ It's time to prohibit these lobbies from accessing EU policymakers! Take action, join us in a twitter storm on Thursday (27th April)!

Climate change is one of the greatest threats we face, sure, but when we try to dive into the topic, we quickly crash into concepts like 'net zero', 'hydrogen', 'carbon capture and storage' (CCS), 'carbon offsets' and 'just transition'... So is that good? Bad? Ugly?

🤔 @corporateeurope and @pollutersout have made a little climate justice explainer to breakdown exactly what the terms mean and whether we should be worried by them or not (hint: many of them are being promoted by big oil & gas companies, which should already ring some alarm bells).

COMING SOON: The News at 1.5 - End of Year Special

The planet is on fire, millions are dying, but oil and gas lobbyists are seemingly still running the show. WTF?!? The News at 1.5 team has (finally) made it back from COP26 in Glasgow (Editor: Seriously? What did they do, walk all the way home?) and are bringing out their End of Year special this FRIDAY. Stay tuned! by @pollutersout

COP has once again proven that governments will prioritize the fossil fuel industry. In fact, despite the UN saying polluters would not have a formal role at COP, the fossil fuel industry has more delegates than any country. When we center governments, we are inadvertently centering the corporations deeply entrenched in them. We won’t, and we didn’t, let this slide.

Youth attendees interrupted a panel led by BP and Gazprom executives, letting them know the world doesn’t have time for greenwashing and “net zero” farces. Uplifting people, not polluters, is the only global solution to climate change, and we won’t stop protesting until international climate conferences act accordingly.

A future without polluters isn't possible without radical unity.

COP26 is marketed to the public as a time of international collaboration for the good of our planet. Yet in reality, this space deliberately platforms polluters and their greenwashing propaganda, while silencing people and their narratives.

The only collaboration at COP is between government officials and fossil fuel executives meant to protect profits at any expense, including us, the people.

What does silencing look like inside COP? We have seen differential treatment of suits versus activists, needless bag searching of BIPOC peoples, confiscation of items displaying so-called ‘political messaging’, and downright denial of youth- and BIPOC participation during sessions inside the COP. This is why we took action to protest the charade.

Protecting the climate isn’t just keeping temperatures below a certain threshold. Protecting the climate means platforming the voices of those most affected by natural disasters. Protecting the climate means partaking in radical joy that chooses optimism over cynicism. And above all, protecting the climate means Polluters Out, and People In.

Getting polluters out is an international priority. We took to Glasgow to spread the message, but it's up to all of us, worldwide, to act on it.
