As we move into a new week after the election, we wanted to welcome all our new followers. We’re excited you’re here and we’re grateful you found us. We are humbled by the love and support.

We are processing so much, carrying grief and heaviness, but we are ready for this moment — we hope you are, too. What we’ve known at Polo’s is the power that comes from the people. Grounded. Rooted. We move like water to support the visions of food access and sovereignty from the brilliant minds and big hearts of local leaders + community. We don’t believe in individualism or lean on top-down solutions, the most sustainable work is done TOGETHER and led by people whose lives are found in the margins. We listen deeply to them because they have made us better.

Here are some moments in community we wanted to share, moments of love and togetherness over the years. We look forward to feeding the people with you, to build a better world in community with each other — a world we truly deserve 🤲🏽💕

🍎 1. Grandmothers from farmworker families used the produce they received from @campesinasunite’s food distribution in Coachella Valley, to make us homemade agua frescas on a hot day

🫓 2. We ordered fresh pupusas from a group of elders in Lynwood, to feed houseless neighbors in South Central

💪🏾 3. Young people @humanities4thehomies_ (Eagle Rock HS) organized a monthly food distribution for their community in NELA with @shopbenicehavefun

🌽 4-5. @lasfotosproject student leaders traveled with us to Coachella Valley to document our work with farmworkers and their families

🥙 6. @evason96 of @cpcolectivo nourishing our bellies during an organizing meeting

💝 7-8. @aetnastreetsolidarity launches Aetnapalooza and we hired local street vendors to feed the community

🪧 9-10. We marched for farmworkers’ rights with @ufwupdates during Cesar Chavez Day in downtown L.A.

For decades, food insecurity in Gaza has been the product of the weaponization of food by the Israeli occupation to coerce Palestinians into forfeiting their rights. Small food producers, including fisherfolk and farmers, have been denied access to their waters, land, and other crucial common goods. Many have been killed by Israeli forces while seeking to secure their livelihoods.

We reiterate the call for an immediate #CeasefireNow in this gen*cide. We stand together with the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty (ANFS), People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS), and 90+ organizations all over the world who are signatories to the 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆. 🫒

What is your favorite memory in a garden or park?

Green spaces in any community is everything!! Our parks and gardens steward connection for all of us during difficult and transformative times. West Athens Victory Community Garden is that place for us. Garden club, grief group and walking club has carried us through these past grueling and life giving years. We wanna keep growing and sustain as best as possible. We are asking for your support!
