Barclays analyst Dan Levy says a Tesla and SpaceX merger could be announced as soon as early December, before Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting. He says combining the two Elon Musk companies would bring their AI work under one roof.

Musk already controls about 85% of the votes at SpaceX, which went public in June and is worth around $2 trillion. The two companies are also teaming up on Terafab, a giant AI chip factory in Texas.

Traders predict a 68% that a SpaceX and Tesla merger could be officially announced by December 31st, 2027.

An OpenAI engineer has been arrested by the FBI and charged with hiding a listening device inside a roll of toilet paper in the company’s executive meeting room. Prosecutors say a second device was found in his bag, and he now faces up to five years in prison.

OpenAI says it used its own AI to trace the device back to him, then fired him and alerted the FBI. The company says there’s no sign he took any of its AI technology or customer data.

Traders predict a 25% chance that OpanAI’s IPO valuation will be $1.75-$2T.

Gas-only cars have fallen below 50% of global new vehicle sales for the first time in over a century, accounting for just 49% of the market, according to new industry data.

Worldwide sales of gas-only vehicles dropped 10%, while electric vehicle sales rose 12% and hybrid sales climbed 10%.

The historic shift comes as rising oil prices and lower operating costs push more consumers toward electric and hybrid alternatives.

Just 10 stocks have driven about 70% of the S&P 500’s 23% rise since its March low, according to The Kobeissi Letter. Nvidia led the way, with big gains from Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and other tech giants.

Apple just unveiled HomeView, a $299 smart home hub with a 7-inch screen that controls lights, locks and cameras, makes FaceTime calls and runs Apple’s new Siri AI. It goes on sale November 13, taking on Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s smart home devices.

Apple’s stock hit a new all-time high on the news, pushing the company’s value back above $5 trillion. Apple first crossed that mark in July, becoming only the second company ever to do it after Nvidia.

Meta has banned TikTok’s owner, ByteDance, from running ads on Facebook, Instagram and its other apps in the U.S. and six other countries. “We don’t have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps,” a Meta spokesperson said.

Meta’s stock barely moved on the news itself, but it has jumped about 7% so far this week, adding more than $120 billion in value. Investors are betting on its AI push ahead of earnings later this month.

A Microsoft director called AI’s scraping of online content “the largest theft of labor in human history” in a 2023 internal memo. The memo was revealed in court filings from the New York Times’ copyright lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI.

Separately, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says AI needs an “emergency brake” that lets humans pause or shut down an AI model mid-task. “We must assume a model is compromised and contain it from the start,” he wrote.

China’s central bank has bought gold for 23 months in a row, bringing its reserves to about 77.5 million ounces. In September alone it added 740,000 ounces, worth about $3.1 billion and its biggest monthly purchase in three years.

China has been steadily buying gold to rely less on the U.S. dollar. Central banks around the world have been buying too, helping push gold prices to record highs.
