This is Lucy.

A lot of you knew her, many more did not. But I wanted to make this post so that everyone could could finally meet her and see how she was the goodest of girls.

Initially, she barked her head off to things she didn't know so she didn't always make the greatest first impression. But once she got to know you, whoever you were you became her (temporary) best friend. She loved big and unconditionally and had a smile that would melt my heart. She was the biggest goofball and did everything she could to make you laugh or make you feel loved.

On Tuesday, everything was right in the world and normal and in an instant my world is crumbling. The vet found cancer. A cancer that could not be treated or taken out. She would have to be put to sleep within the next days or the complications from any further growth would cause her extreme pain.

This bundle of joy, who did nothing but love me and everyone she came in contact with would be taken from this world and there was nothing I could do to stop it. How cruel it is to know the love of a dog and know that you only have a short time with them. But this was too short. This was the rug coming out from under me at mach speeds.

Lucy was taken from me on Wednesday. We got to say our goodbyes the night before, and she even got a visit from one of her oldest friends @macdsmith and @skputlak. We got to shower her with love and steaks and we got see that infectious smile one more time.

But it isn't enough. There isn't enough time in the day or enough words I can say to express how much you meant to me. You saved me. Multiple times from the depths of depression and solitude, you were there by my side loving me.

I didnt get enough time with you. You were too good for this world and you were too good of a dog for this dummy to have. I am so thankful that I went back to look at that empty kennel at the shelter one last time. You had came back from your walk, and as soon as I saw you I knew you were my dog. My heart is broken and I will never be the same after losing you.

My stinky little girl.

My best friend.

My Lucy Goosey.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. And I don't know what to do without you. by @polynesian_thunder

Y-Corps Day 4: The day started with a historical sight, The Old Mill, which served as a mill for the community while also being a base of operations during battles in the Civil War. After that, we did service at The House of Blessings which has been serving the town of Monticello hot food and a place for community. The town suffers from food insecurities every day, and sometimes this kitchen is the only source of food for some of its citizens. During the pandemic, they were feeding over half of the population of the town. They only have two actual employees and rely purely on volunteer work. Our kids came in there and did a couple days worth of work in a matter of hours. They got to really see how their service directly affected the community and the faces of the people they were giving their time to. After that, we drove to Whitesburg, KY where the students got to learn about Appalshop, an intiative that was started in 1969 to educate those interested in filmography and movie production to help preserve the history and legacy of Appalachia. They use their platform to highlight their community and dispel stereotypes of Appalachia. Their former space was flooded and thousands of reels of film were needing to be saved or else they would be lost to time. We helped them build shelves for the film reels and learned about their mission and how we could help. They also took us into the town and let us help set up the final Levitt Music Series the town was throwing. We got to see the beautiful town that they serve and everyone was the most welcoming and sweetest of people and were so accomadating to our program that they knew nothing about. The kiddos were so moved by this community and how they were welcomed with open arms. They could not stop talking about the town and the service they did. by @polynesian_thunder

Y-Corps Day 3: Started the day with the Jefferson Davis Memorial, the largest concrete monument in the world. Though he was the president of the confederacy, we took that time to teach the kids about the history because it is important to learn about those parts of our past, no matter how dark it can be. We then travelled to Bowling Green to help clean up and revitalize a center where kids and families come for aid and community. In the sweltering heat, the kids hit the ground running and got down in the dirt and transformed the place in a couple of hours. With zero complaints and such positive attitudes, I couldn't have asked for a better group of kids to watch over! To reward their efforts we let them run rabid in the Buccees and ended the day with a BBQ in the park with a few old friends and a wickedly cool playground. Though these days are long, they have filled me with joy and a sense of accomplishment that can only come from making a difference in the community. by @polynesian_thunder

Y-Corps Day Two: Fun in The Sun! Though the heat bore down on us and made me feel like I was in a forever sweat lodge, we put in the work and made the beach shore usable again after a flood. The kids didn't complain and earned their stripes getting dirty and worked as a team to make the shore beautiful again. I'm so proud of these kiddos and lucked out on having such an amazing group. Let's see what today has in store for us! by @polynesian_thunder

Y-Corps Day One: This crew is something special! What a way to start off a service trip. We helped get the Americana Center in order with some heavy duty cleaning and yard work. We then get a beautiful vista to reflect and share in the moment of beauty. I cant wait to see what else this trip has in store! by @polynesian_thunder
