Did you know? 🤯

In Auroville, one lone banyan tree on a barren plateau became the heart of an entire international city. 🌳✨

In the late 1960s, the Mother (Mirra Alfassa) had to choose the exact centre of Auroville.
She pointed to a single spot on a map of the area north of Pondicherry — a place she had never even visited.

The most amazing part?
Roger Anger drove there by jeep and found just ONE large banyan tree standing alone on an empty plateau. 🚙

🕉️ Sacred in India → became the city's centre
🏛️ Today → the soul of Auroville, beside the Matrimandir

This white monument is the symbol of Pondicherry. But it was built for a woman most people have never heard of. 🤍

Her name was Aayi.
500 years ago a king mistook her house for a temple and bowed to it. When he found out the truth, he ordered it destroyed. So Aayi tore down her own home and built a water tank in its place.

Centuries later, that very tank gave clean water to French Pondicherry when every well had turned salty. To honour her, they built this monument. Today it stands as the official symbol of Puducherry.

One woman. One sacrifice. One story most people walk past without knowing. 👇

are believed to have come and worshipped Lord Shiva! 🛕✨

Built by many kings from the Pallava period
to the Nayak period — this is no ordinary temple.

The most amazing part?
The places where each god stayed are
now real villages around Puducherry!

🌙 Chandran's place → Piraiyur
☀️ Sooryan's place → Othiyampattu
⚡ Indran's place → Arasur
🛕 Thirumal's place → Singirikovil
🌬️ Thendral's place → Thennal

And all of this is still inscribed on the
ancient stone inscriptions inside the temple! 📜
