I’m honoured to have spent as much time with you as I did. I still remember the lecture you gave me that day after I played you some unreleased music. You told me we just need to drop our music — whether people like it or not — because if it touches even one person, we’ve done our as job messengers. As creatives we are always a step ahead of the world they will follow when the time comes. “Transition” didn’t do well till a couple years later.

After my verse played in the song you said “THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT MFKER” then continued to ask me to play the song the rest of the night. One of my fav memories with you.

This is a loss that will ring on in my heart forever. You gave our people every bit of you till your last breath!!!

This journey taught me that it is not just about enduring the pain. It is not just about lying under the au and making it through each session. It is about understanding the weight of service, the sacrifice of those around you, and the responsibility that comes with carrying this measina.

The pain was mine to feel, but the journey was never mine alone. Every plate of food, every prayer, every word of encouragement, every person who showed up, every hand that helped, every sacrifice made behind the scenes, all of it became part of this pe’a. Looking at my pe’a, I will remember everything everyone has done for me during this journey.

To my family and friends, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for carrying me when I was tired, for feeding me, praying for me, encouraging me, checking on me, and making sacrifices that many people may never see. This journey asked a lot from me, but it also asked a lot from all of you. I will never forget the love, support, and service you poured into me while I was under the au.

To @dre_westcoast_ and his team, thank you for guiding me through this journey with patience, care, and purpose. Thank you to Dre for leading the way, for trusting the process, and for helping me carry this measina with the respect it deserves. Thank you to the au koso for playing your part, for the work behind the scenes, and for standing beside the tufuga as this pe’a came to life. I truly believe I chose the right people for this journey.

I learned that strength is not just how much pain you can take. Strength is being carried by your āiga, your tufuga and his Kosos, and your people, and then remembering that one day, it is your turn to carry others.

Written by Rev Iosefa Lale Peteru and made famous by Pukaru & Ben Vai.

This song has always meant a lot to me. Growing up, it helped me through some hard times and always brought a bit of peace when I needed it.

I wanted to blend both the versions from Pukaru and Ben Vai into something of my own, while still respecting the beautiful words written by Rev Iosefa Lale Peteru.

Hope this version can reach someone out there the same way it reached me. Available everywhere now. by @ponifasiosamoa
