Jen Shepard’s work examines the relationship between personal and archetypal themes related to metaphysics, science, the afterlife, and grief through conceptual and formal explorations of gesture and materials.

The fifth artist whose work we’ll be showcasing on 10/1 is @nikki.lindt seen here working in the field. At the show, you’ll hear—

Five Minutes of Permafrost Thaw, Alaska 2018
2018
Single-channel video with sound
5 minutes

“My work begins with listening closely to processes that usually escape human attention. I record inside soils, ice, water, and trees, translating these encounters into sound, visual and participatory works.

Five Minutes of Permafrost Thaw, Alaska 2018, emerged from fieldwork where I moved through a thawing landscape at close range and experienced its sounds. Encountering the permafrost thaw slump in this way brought sound into my long-established visual art practice. I began to understand sound as a time-based language that could reveal environmental change as it was actively unfolding.”

We’ll also be showing work by @nancymcohen @doraymee jenshepardart and @zeldazinn at our inaugural pop-up show POOL, on October 1st during @art_dumbo First Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, M16 @ 20 Jay St.

“Blown, Again” by Nancy Cohen @nancymcohen is shown here as well as an early stage of making “Blown, Again” (during her residency at Women’s Studio Workshop)—with the work in process on the vacuum table.

We’ll be showing “Blown, Again” and other works by Nancy as well as work by @nikki.lindt @doraymee jenshepardart and @zeldazinn at our pop-up show POOL, on October 1st during @art_dumbo First Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, M16 @ 20 Jay St.

Blown, Again. 2023. 51 x 34 inches. Paper pulp on handmade paper

“In my ongoing work there is a fine fragile line between existence and its opposite, a line we all walk and which the small and large environments that contain us walk as well. Waterways, in particular, with their almost human balance of fragility and strength, their perseverance through adversity—much of it inflicted by us—trace lines of stress and hope through our landscapes—as well as a strong line through the body of my work.” -Nancy Cohen

Introducing @zeldazinn, who will be exhibiting in POOL: Artist Collective’s inaugural show this October 1st at 20 Jay St, Suite M16. We’re so excited to share her work and welcome you to our first exhibition together.

Title: Arctic #6213

Medium: Archival Pigment Print

Measurements: 24”X34”

Artist Statement: Moving beyond the convention of recording found moments in front of the camera. Zelda Zinn constructs, deconstructs and reconstructs both her subjects and the resulting photographs. Her process navigates the borders between photography and other arts, and operates at the edge where representation and abstraction meet. by @poolartistcollective

Introducing @doraymee one of the artists exhibiting in our inaugural show. Dora is a local Dumbo based artist.

Title: still water / iframe (2026)

Medium: Video sculpture

Measurements: 8” x 10” x 3”

Media description: A scalloped olive-green frame holds a small looping video of sunlight on the East River. A black cord hangs visibly below.

Artist statement: still water / iframe is a picture frame that breathes. As a photographer, I know what a still image cannot hold and water is the clearest proof. Water is never a thing, only a process and change is the only constant it offers. It asks what it means to contain something living: water that moves, light that shifts, a moment that cannot be fixed. by @poolartistcollective

Please join us on October 1st during @art_dumbo First Thursdays for our inaugural exhibition—POOL. Shown in the flyer is Jennifer Shepard’s “Good Morning! Hairbrush.” Other works by artists @nancymcohen @doraymee @nikki.lindt @zeldazinn

Please join us October 1st for the first POOL pop-up exhibition. The theme is the same as the collective:

As a women’s collective, we POOL labor, resources, and space in order to support multidisciplinary artists. Located a stone’s throw from the East River, the POOL reflects a desire for connectivity, possibility, and visibility for artists in Brooklyn and beyond. The POOL plunges us into conversation, exchange, and play through happenings, gatherings, and pop-up exhibitions. The POOL is a site of convergence. It is formed by accumulation. It deepens through contribution.

We look forward to seeing you there!
