Dear Seputla-yo-lolo 😭 Napo-yo-lolo is not okay.

It has been crazy having to work through tears today. To break. Then breathe. Then wail. Then pick up the phone, answer emails, and reply to messages… as if life hasn’t just shifted. Then tell my children their uncle is no more. But more than that… what of your children: Thapelo, Khothatso, Sebogodi, Thabang 💔

Then see calls. Then read and reply to messages… work being work, as if life hasn’t just shifted.

In the space between making sense and nothing making sense, one wonders if we even have permission to cry. And if we do, will we ever stop?

What a hectic world this is. What a painful reminder of how ruthless this life can be.

Seputla-yo-lolo… this one breaks my heart. I am heartbroken. Tjooooo! Fare thee well, Ngwaneso. Thank you for giving me my first professional acting break — still angry that we got paid R20 and Somizi went on to get our R5 (five rands)😅. Thank you for giving me my first taste of directing, even though I am still pissed you threw me into the deep end. I guess you saw in me what no one else did. Flip! I was just a little girl from Qwaqwa, fresh out of drama school, and you and Peter Ngwenya just decided I was fit for drama. 🕯️🕊️👠

You showed up at my weakest with Mpho J Molepo when my precious grandmother passed away. You stood behind me like a true brother when I had to speak at the funeral, and you picked me up when I fainted… and allowed me to breathe away from pain with dignity.

I am hurting… Seputla-yo-lolo. I am so, so, so sad 😞 I am so so sorry. I don’t even know who I will fight with and still they show up at my worst as if nothing is up (or down).// now that you are gone. 😭

Much could be said, but perhaps the greatest gift now is to let you depart with dignity. No one deserves to bow out like that. No one.

Artistic Director’s Chronicles 🎭

May our gift stop asking for permission. May it arrive armed as artistic hammers, choppers, cleavers, and flankers bold enough to carve new conversations and reimagine what our voices could, and should, become on the world’s many stages.

I figured out a long time ago that when you choose to wrestle with deep, real, thought-provoking questions, you won’t gather a thousand rounds of applause. But perhaps that was never the assignment.

A true artist says what remains unsaid by those who have nothing to say about what truly needs saying. Some journeys are not measured in kilometres, but in how deeply they return you to yourself.

We will greet the horses with gentle hands and curious hearts. We will walk into caves that have held centuries of silence, stories and sacred echoes. We will stand before mountains that remind us how beautifully small we are, yet how limitless our dreams can become. And then there is the landscape breath-taking, unapologetic and ancient… where every valley, every rock and every whisper of wind insists that nature remains the greatest storyteller.

Come. Wander. Breathe. Listen.

Financial Literacy is a necessity for for all of us to build and maintain sustainable careers.

@dbsabank briefed us to create an industrial theatre piece based on Financial Literacy, curated to be performed for their internal team as a way to wrap up youth month, “The Future Is In Your Hands”.

The piece was inspiring and allowed for engagement, sparking meaningful conversations.

Director Chronicles | Move-In Day

The day before the day. The theatre inhales.

Actors arrive with costumes, cue sheets, nerves and knowing. Technical rehearsals begin. Costume parade. Lights find faces. Sound finds breath. The stage finally meets the stories it has been waiting for.

Move-in is beautifully untidy—the sacred dance where panic courts precision, costumes become characters, and rehearsal slowly surrenders to performance.

Director Chronicles

Somewhere between “Again, from the top!” and “Hold that cue!” she disappeared… and the work appeared.

She soared, losing herself in the thick of things.

The baritone call of the kudu horn tore through the rehearsal room, stirring urgency, lifting dust into the air. Visibility? Limited. Instinct? Crystal clear.

A director learns early that not every journey requires sight. Sometimes you lead with a relocated heart.

And then she advanced…

Hips swaying. Hips pumping.

Chachacha. Chachacha. Chachacha.

Feet conversing with the floor. Curved arms flirting with flight. Dust rising in applause before the audience ever has a chance.

Today’s rehearsal was less about getting it right and more about remembering that theatre is at its most honest when it forgets it is being watched.
