Cherry burl on full display… one wrong move and you’re staring into it for hours. That grain doesn’t play nice.

5° in New Jersey and I’m inside the barn ripping walnut like it’s mid-summer. Cold air, hot blade, and a log that waited its whole life for this moment. Pops Barn Sunday.

Spent the afternoon cutting beautiful 5 /4 x 10” walnut on my @norwoodsawmills 👌🏼 it was also my first time firing up the newly installed @wooddstovess in the mill house.

About 70 people, I lost count. Every slab, every board, every scrap gone by 1:00. You raised $1,540 for @mikeroweworks trade scholarships on wood I would’ve sold you. Couldn’t ask for more. This isn’t the only day.

Tomorrow. Labor Day. 9 to 1. Pop’s Barn, Byram Township.

Everything I cut is free. No price tags. Scan the QR at the table and give the mikeroweWORKS Foundation what the wood’s worth to you. Every dollar goes to trade scholarships.

Two pieces per person until noon. Then open season.

Link in bio. Can’t make it? The link works from your couch.

Bigger log, worse decisions. Follow along.

Guy asked if I could get a table out of this.
One. You get one table. That’s the whole log.

100” at the widest, live edge both sides, feather figure where the fork split. Air drying now, kiln after.

Tell me what you’d build with it and I’ll tell you why it’s wrong.

Funny how life comes full circle.

I used to be the kid learning from my dad. Now I’m standing beside my son, turning another walnut log into something that’ll outlive both of us.

The wood changes hands. The lessons don’t.

People think sawmilling is giant slabs, cool grain, and chainsaws screaming…

Nah.
It’s cutting tiny sticks for the rest of your natural life. 🪵

I’ve cut thousands of stickers already.
Good news is…
I still have thousands more to go.”

You think you’ve seen big logs…
then a two-eyed ambrosia monster rolls into Pops Mill House.”

55” wide.
46” wide.
One cut on the Lucas Mill and this thing started staring back at us.

Sometimes the log pile gives you firewood.
Sometimes it gives you something nobody forgets.
