POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Howdy, folks! 👋 I’m Sara, founder and refinisher at Pop Salvage Designs in Bethesda, Maryland. Every year, I like to do a fun get-to-know-me post to reintroduce myself to new followers—so here we go!

My passion lies in sourcing quality antique and vintage pieces and redesigning them for stylish homes in the DMV (that’s DC, Maryland, and Virginia 😉). While I began in 2018 primarily with painting, about half of my work these days involves restoration. I’ve come to appreciate homes that feel lived-in and layered with character and imperfection, blending the old with the new. Fortunately, my clients seem to agree, embracing both the smooth, modern finishes of my painted pieces and the authenticity of worn, weathered primitives.

After a productive winter break spent sourcing furniture, I’ve curated a collection I’m eager to start working on!

Because your basic nightstands weren’t cutting it 🫵🏼
Time to upgrade your bedroom with a sleek set of matching oversized MCM chests. Refinished in a moody charcoal, warm wood base, and modern knurled brass knobs, for a tailored and refined look. Each piece has three spacious dovetailed drawers with pristine interiors that glide smoothly. These had good bones, but came with a lot of cosmetic damage that required a lot of time and patience. Swipe for the before!

New era, new purpose 🔄
A desk-to-nightstand conversion finally made it into the rotation, and this petite vintage desk was the perfect candidate. It had plenty of charm, but little legroom. Reworking it into a matching pair of bedside tables made it better suited to today’s home.

The original desktop was salvaged and cut down to create two new tops, while the upper three drawers were removed to bring each piece to a standard 25-inch bedside height. Once reconstructed, the pair was painted in @benjaminmoore Millstone Gray then finished with abstract porcelain knobs and drawer liners cut from vintage nautical wallpaper.

It’s never too late to become something new.

Office hours, upgraded. 📎
Working from home has never looked this good. This iconic vintage Bernhardt desk has been fully refinished in Benjamin Moore Newburg Green, with the original campaign-style brass pulls and corner guards brought back to life.

Four spacious dovetailed drawers glide smoothly and are finished with coordinating liners inside.

This design always takes a little more elbow grease, but it has a presence that’s hard to replicate. Your desk search can officially end here!

Fun fact: Thailand outlawed rubbings in the 1960s to preserve the temples, making sets like these quite rare 📜 A layered series of 8 unique Thai temple rubbings for someone building a home that feels collected, not copied. The eclectic mix of bamboo, painted, and antiqued frames is what makes these special—full of vintage wear, aged texture, and visual depth. Keep swiping!!

foxing (fok′-sing), noun: the speckled and streaky aging that appears in antique mirror glass over time. Prized by collectors, it’s the kind of distinctive patina that gives a piece depth and authenticity.

This aged Regency-style oval mirror has a rich mahogany frame, beveled-edge glass, and decorative brass finial details on each side. The generous size makes it a great entryway focal point🪞
